TRANSFORMER OIL ANALYSIS TRAINING COURSE

Oil analysis is the key to long term Transformer Condition Monitoring. T.E.Laboratories Ltd have teamed up with Laborelec in Belgium to provide a one day Transformer Oil Analysis Training Course. Laborelec have gained lots of experience in this area during the last 50 years.

The purpose of the course is twofold: Acquiring the knowledge needed to define and implement an adequate programme of oil analysis to monitor the condition of transformers. Understanding and interpreting oil analysis reports and implementing maintenance recommendations.

Course date: Wednesday 4th December 2013 Venue: T.E.Laboratories, Tullow Industrial Estate, Tullow, Co. Carlow.

Training
Monitoring the condition of transformers through regular oil analyses

Company Prole
Laborelec is a leading research and competence centre in electrical power technology. It was established in 1962 in order to support Belgian electricity companies with research, development, and specialized services. Today, it is part of GDF SUEZ, a world leader in energy.

Content of the training

The training starts with a half-day theoretical session addressing various aspects of transformer condition assessment: Why perform transformer oil analyses? What are the main oil and paper degradation mechanisms? Which analyses apply to which types of transformers? Why perform different kind of analyses at different frequency? What is the best frequency for conducting the analyses? How to interpret test results: trending, comparison with international standards, etc. How to use the analysis results to create and implement a maintenance action plan. In the afternoon, there is a visit to the TelLab oil analysis laboratory. In addition, several specific case studies will be discussed in order to train the interpretation of results and the formulation of recommendations.

Training Coordinator
Julie Van Peteghem
Julie Van Peteghem is a graduated chemical engineer of the University of Ghent, Belgium. She joined Laborelec in 2006, firstly in the chromatography lab and in charge of R&D projects regarding insulating fluids and condition monitoring of transformers. Nowadays shes responsible for the condition monitoring of transformers in the OILS lab, part of Electricity, Grids End-Use department at Laborelec. Involved in the follow up of the GDF-Suez transformer Fleet, the Belgian High Voltage transport Grid and the major part of the industrial oil-filled transformers the OILS lab is also known as a reference lab for acceptance testing of new insulating fluids. Being an active member of IEC Technical committee 10 and several Cigr working groups shes still involved in several R&D projects regarding innovations in insulating fluids and condition monitoring of transformers (paper ageing, corrosive sulfur).
