1 STANDARD: SC Standard 4-3: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the conflict between the American colonies and England. Indicator 4-3.1: Explain the major political and economic factors that led to the American Revolution, including the French and Indian War, the Stamp Act, the Tea Act, and the Intolerable Acts as well as American resistance to these through boycotts, petitions, and congresses. OBJECTIVE(S): Audience 4th grade students Behavior Students will understand the factors that led to the American revolution by explaining the major events through tableaus and by answering questions orally and through writing. MATERIALS: Snacks brought by students Extra snacks 10 skittles for each student Plastic Cups SS Text Books for each student Quick Check for 8-1 Flipchart for each student Student Interactive Notebooks PROCEDURE: Introduction Body Review through discussion the French and Indian War. Group one will then have 60 seconds to come up with a tableau to represent the key facts. One participant will then narrate what the tableau means. Next, the class will discuss the Proclamation of 1763. Group two will be given 60 seconds to construct a tableau to represent the key facts. One participant will then narrate what the tableau means.
Students retrieve snack by group. Students without snack may select one from teacher snacks. Distribute paper cups: one to each student with 10 skittles in it. Tell students that snack time has gotten out of control for two reasons: 1. Students have been leaving a mess that I must clean up. 2. Students arent bringing their snack so I had to jump in and provide it. Next, as students are eating snack, collect the following: o All skittles is snack is not typically allowed o 2 skittles if snack is not in a Ziplock bag o 3 skittles if snack is not a fruit or vegetable o 1 skittle if snack is goldfish o 1 skittle if snack crumbles Next, open Social Studies Book to page 269-270. Have students read about the Stamp Act together. Discuss relation of Snack Tax to Stamp Act. Conclusion Students will clue flap-book in IAN. Students will draw a picture on the front, and write key facts under for the following flaps: o French and Indian War o Proclamation of 1763 o Stamp Act Groups share and suggest ideas for teacher to copy in her flap-book through Elmo for others to add if needed.
ASSESSMENT: Students will use their books to individually complete the first 8 questions on the Quick Check.
