This class is designed to introduce both novice and seasoned handlers and dog to basic obedience and pet manners using a
clicker. No prior clicker experience is required. The objective of this class is to enhance communication between dog and
owner, develop your teaching skills and your dogs' learning skills, and to build a harmonious human-canine family.
We'll start with basic skills like sit and down, introduce impulse control, recalls, polite greetings, and so much more. This
class will cover the same behaviors taught in Home Companion: sit, down, stand, recall, stay, heel-work, leave it, all
while preparing for the CGC test. We'll also review basic grooming, nutrition, give/drop, target/touch, and a trick or two!
Beginning obedience classes (i.e. beginning open and beginning novice) will focus on teaching the exercises, and in some
cases the foundations for the exercises, specific to each level (for example in beginning novice, among other things, on
and off leash heeling for competition will be taught, in beginning open, among other things, jump skills and retrieving
skills will be taught).
Advance obedience classes (i.e. advanced novice and advance open) will focus on perfecting, practicing, and preparing
for obedience competition at that level.
You can start at EITHER Beginning or Advanced with your dog. You can also enroll in Beginning AND Advanced in the
SAME session with the SAME dog (spend 45 minutes learning the exercises, and 45 minutes practicing). You can take
Beginning Novice one session and Advance Open the next session, or any other similar combo. You can take all the
Beginning classes, Beginning Novice through Beginning Utility* and than return back to Advance Novice or any other
combo that suits your training goals. The only prerequisites remain that you (and this dog) must take some-type of sub
novice (either starting or both starting and seasoned) before moving onto Novice, you must take some-type of novice
(either beginning or advanced or both) before moving onto Open, and you must take some-type of Open (either beginning
or advance or both) before moving onto Utility.
* This class (Beginning Utility) is not being offered in the Fall 2009 session.
Sub Novice Starting – First time taking Sub Novice at DTCCU with this dog. This class may be taken again with Sub
Novice Instructor approval.
Sub Novice Seasoned – Repeating Sub Novice at DTCCU with this dog. This class may be taken before Sub Novice
Starting with Home Companion Instructor approval only.
This course will focus on teaching fundamental skills necessary to be successful in rally. This course will prepare
students for APDT Level 1 and AKC Novice Rally.
Competition Rally
Prerequisite: Rally 2, Rally 3, Rally Unleashed or instructor approval
Limit: 8
This course will focus on perfecting skills needed to compete in rally at ANY level AKC or APDT. Any one who has
ever done rally will tell you that a major part of rally competition is remembering the course, knowing the signs, all the
while maintaining your dog’s attention and focus. The focus will be on running courses, on rules and on scoring.
