News From Room 207: Important Dates
Week of 2/10/14
Our Valentines Celebration is on Friday. Your children are encouraged to bring in a special peanut-free snack to be eaten during the read aloud at the party. Snacks may not be shared. Children are welcome to bring in Valentines cards for the class. I have attached a class list. If your child wishes to bring in Valentine cards to share, there must be one for each child in the class. Cards may NOT have any candy attached to them.

2/11 Tuesday Whats My Intent sheet due 2/11 Tuesday Mock Long Composition MCAS
We will be doing Secret Valentine this week. This is very similar to the Secret Snowflake we did. As part of homework each night, your child will need to create something for their secret valentine. Please check in with your child to be sure the daily project is completed and returned to school on time.
~Tuesday-Choice (Due Wed.) ~Wednesday- Create a special container for your Secret Valentines cards (Due Thursday) ~Thursday- Make a card for your Secret Valentine. Be sure to include a motivational quote. (Due Friday)
We will have our Mock Long Composition test on Tuesday. Please be sure your child is well rested and brings in a healthy snack and water bottle. If you wish to send in sugarfree gum, please feel free to do so. The Whats My Intent sheet is due this Tuesday. We are still in need of new or gently used panty-hose/tights. They are a wonderful building material. If you have any and you are willing them to donate to our classroom, please send them in ASAP. Warmly, Sandra Travers

ELA We will have our Mock Long Composition this week and focus on editing and revising our writing pieces. Read Aloud We have begun reading the first book in the Warriors series, Into the Wild. Rusty, a young "kittypet" (house cat), yearns for adventure. When he's offered the chance to join the ThunderClan, one of the gangs of feral cats in the area, he doesn't hesitate. Renamed Firepaw, he becomes an apprentice and begins to train as a warrior.
Math We will continue with Unit 7 this week. Students need to practice math facts nightly. Please visit www.everydaymathonline.com as often as possible Social Studies
As we begin our travels into the warm climate of the South Region, we will learn what everyone already knows about the area! States and Capitals cards will be coming home.
Science
Planning and building for our Egg Drop will take place this week. Each team will create a package to protect an egg from a high drop. Any survivors from the individual classroom drops will participate in the 4th grade Egg Drop in the cafeteria on Friday morning. It is sure to be a smashing success.
