Verb Exercises. Past Simple and Present Simple 1.

Put the correct forms of the verbs into the gaps. Use the Simple Past in the statements.
Example: She ______ her mother in the kitchen. (to help) Answer: She helped her mother in the kitchen.

1) They .............ordered..............something to drink. (to order) 2) Last summer I ...........went..................to Stuttgart. (to go) 3) She.............did...... her homework in the afternoon. (to do) 4) He ........counted............ to 10. (to count) 5) Our cat ......cought........... a big mouse. (to catch) 6) In 2001 our class ........made................. a trip to Norwich. (to make) 7) The weather............was....... really nice. 2. Negate the first sentence in each task. Write the negative verb forms (sometimes with a preposition) from the first sentences into the gaps. You can use long or short (contracted) forms of the auxiliaries.
Example: Frank turned on the radio. - Frank ______________ the radio. Answer: Frank turned on the radio. - Frank did not turn on the radio. or Frank didn't turn on the radio.

1) Peter woke up at seven. - Peter did not work up at seven. 2) The children ran home. - The children did not run home. 3) I forgot to take the book with me. - I did not forget to take the book with me. 4) We turned off the computer. - We did not turn off the computer. 5) My friend looked after the baby. - My friend did not look after the baby. 6) Anne dropped a bottle of cola. - Anne did not drop a bottle of cola. 7) The boys jumped into the water. - The boys did not jump into the water. 8) He finished his homework. - He did not finish his homework. 9) They brushed their teeth. - They did not brush their teeth. 10) The lady sent invitation cards. - The lady did not send invitation cards.
