THEATER ARTS LABORATORY TEACHING STATION Teaching station is a classroom for teaching of theatre arts subject.

Its appropriate to employ on occasion, for public presentation, if the seating will accommodate a small invited. Primary function is that of a classroom. Auditorium is for larger public presentation.

Teaching Station Space: 1. 2. 3. 4. Normal classroom Arena-type presentation Proscenium- a part of the stage that is in front of the curtain. Thrust stage All of these spaces allow to be converted to Theatre purposes.

If the school has separate auditorium facilities, it is recommended that the teaching station must be nearby the auditorium in order that some of the services areas might be employed by both theatre units.

Example:

- This figure shows the relationships of teaching station and auditorium. - It is not necessary to duplicate all of the support functions; avoiding unnecessary duplication will save space and construction costs.

- This figure is the area designated as the Teaching station.

Teaching station divides into 3 parts: Part one: Fixed seating on an inclined floor (30 students) with chairs equipped with tablet arms. The area might be preferred with a flat floor with movable chairs for teaching practices. Fixed seating Movable chairs

Part Three: a flat floor area between part one and part two for rehearsal, demo, and arena staging. A playing area of at least 4 x 6 M.

The minimum width of this room (teaching station) is 7 m up to 11 m with a length of 21 m from end to end.

If fixed seating plan is employed for 30 50 seats on a raked (inclined) or terraced floor. It is recommended that there be at least 5 in (o.13 m) differential in height of the rows.

Back to back spacing of 0.9 m for rows and 0.50 0.55 m for individual seats width.

Centre area is for demonstration, classroom space and arena playing. Recessed space might be 0.50 0.60 m below.

Centre area Proscenium stage established by simple curtain framing, this space should be full width of the room at that end and should be at least 4 mm deep.

Projection room opposite to fixed stage for sound room, listening room and projection equipment. The ceiling of this room should be at least 4m above the stage level.

Light control may be located in the offstage area on the fixed stage or in the projection room. Walkway at least 1 m wide, provided on two long sides of the room which connect the stage level. These can be employed as display and work areas at low table height. They can also serve as elevated rows of seating and storage for seating or other theatrical equipment.
