Third Grades A Hoot!

Whats Happening In Our Class?

Hello everyone. Thank you for sending back your conference request forms. I look forward to discussing your childs progress with you next week. We have been working hard in our class on independence and personal responsibility. When the students come in the room in the morning they are greeted by me at the door and then they are to enter the room quietly and look at the screen for their morning work. Students are also supposed to turn in their completed homework. While this can be a challenge we are slowly improving as a class. This will help your child to be ready for 4th grade next year. In math we are just starting Unit 6. This unit will cover geometry. Lines, rays, and 3D shapes. We have also completed our 0, 1, 2, 5, 10, and 11s for multiplication fact families. Next week we will test on the 3s. In order for your child to be successful with this, please help them to study their facts at home and complete their mad minute multiplication sheets nightly. Although only 2 are due per week it is helpful to do one every night. Some students are still having difficulty getting 2 turned in per week. Please ask your child how they are doing on this. I have also given everyone extra challenge packs to work on when they finish their journal work. When your child turns this in they will earn a no math homework coupon for them to use whenever they wish! In addition, I have a fourth grade math pack that is available for parents. This is a take home pack to complete at home for an extra challenge. However, students may bring pages back to school if they wish. Many of these concepts may be new and will not be taught during the school day. Please let me know if you are interested in this. In language arts we are working on information reading and writing. We are all experts on a subject and students will be teaching me a lot! We will learn what makes a good nonfiction article and how to write one. Our science unit is on plants and animals. We will be learning what plants need to survive and how animals adapt to their environment. In social studies we are learning all about Michigan government. What a government is, why we have one, and the 3 branches. This will help prepare us for our Lansing trip on April 1st. Many of you have donated items to our classroom. Thank you! We are in need of a few things if you are able to help. Clorax wipes, pencils, eraser tops, and sticky notes. I really appreciate all you do for our class!
