Guidelines and Mechanics on the Regional Scilympics 2013-2014 The Scilympics aims to enhance minds-on, hands-on, and hearts-on

science learning among elementary and secondary learners. This science activity is composed of three (3) phases: Phase 1-Science Investigatory Pro ect (SIP) !air" Phase #- $ega %&i'" and Phase 3-(reate, Sho), * Tell.

The participants to the different phases of the Scilympics are +ona fide p&pils and st&dents of +oth p&+lic and private schools they represent for S, #-13-#-1.. The schools sho&ld participate in all the phases of the Scilympics in order to +e incl&ded in the overall ran/ing, )here Top 0 )inners ((hampion, 1st, #nd, 3rd, * .th placers) )ill +e ta/en. 1 perpet&al trophy )ill +e a)arded to the overall (hampion and )ill remain in the )inner2s possession as long as no ne) )inner )ill +e declared. 1s soon as a ne) champion )ill +e declared in the ne3t school year, the same trophy )ill +e a)arded to the ne) )inner. The )inning school co&ld only +e a)arded the same /ind of trophy if it is declared as Scilympics champion for three consec&tive years. The $ega %&i' is open to all +ona fide elementary (;rade 3 - ;rade 7) and high school (;rade 6- .th ,ear) learners. This is an Individ&al and Team (ompetition )hich aims to enhance development of critical science thin/ing s/ills. The coverage of the <&i' is +ased on the :ep9d learning competencies from the 1st to #nd ;rading Period pl&s Science Apdates. There )ill +e three (3) categories to +e o+served in cond&cting this competition: 9asy 4o&nd (1 point per correct ans)er)" 1verage 4o&nd (# points per correct ans)er)" and :iffic&lt 4o&nd (3 points per correct ans)er). The (lincher 4o&nd )ill only +e done in case there is a tie after the scores are s&mmed &p in the three categories. 1 separate contest )ill +e cond&cted for every grade=year level for the Individ&al and another for the Team (ompetition composed of fo&r (.) mem+ers coming from each grade=year level. The (reate, Sho), * Tell contest is open to all +ona fide elementary (;rade 3 B;rade 7) and high school (;rade 6- .th ,ear) learners. This is a Team (ompetition composed of fo&r (.) mem+ers coming from each grade level. The contest gives opport&nities for the participants to design something o&t of the given materials and &stify the created prod&ct after)ards. The (ommittee assigned to cond&ct this contest )ill prepare the needed materials and o+ ectives of the activities of the contest. The competition )ill +e done p&+licly to allo) other participants to o+serve.

There )ill +e five (0) activities to +e performed +y the participants and )inners in this phase )ill +e determined &sing the overall ran/ of the participants. The follo)ing r&+rics )ill +e considered in giving points to the created prod&cts:
Standard S&ita+ility of the designed prod&ct 93cellent (0) The created prod&ct is )ell-designed and s&ited to the o+ ective=s of the activity. The &stification done is free from errors. The information given is precise and acc&rate. ;ood (3) The created prod&ct is generally s&ited to the o+ ective of the activity +&t needs improvement for +etter design. The &stification done is almost free from errors. The information given is appropriate +&t needs more ela+oration. !air (1) The created prod&ct does not ans)er the o+ ective and needs a lot of improvement. The )ompetition -e els , Point System There )ill +e three levels of competitions in every Phase of the Scilympics, namely, School Cevel, :ivision Cevel, and 4egional Cevel. Dinners in the School level advance to the :ivision and :ivision )inners to the 4egional !inals. The follo)ing point system )ill +e &sed to determine the overall ran/ing of the participants in the 4egional Phases of the Scilympics: 4an/ 1 - 0 points 4an/ # - . points 4an/ 3 - 3 points 4an/ . - # points 4an/ 0 - 1 point 1ll non-)inning participants- -.0 point The points earned +y the participants in the different phases of the Scilympics )ill +e added and ran/ed accordingly to determine the Everall )inner, the 1 st 4&nner Ap -.th 4&nner Ap. Fo)ever, the Everall (hampion )ill +e declared after all the points of the official participants from the three phases of the 4egional Scilympics are s&mmed &p. The school )hich garnered the highest points in the 4egional Scilympics Phases )ill +e declared as the (hampion. The !irst to !o&rth 4&nner Ap )ill also +e determined +ased on the overall ran/ing res&lts +&t only the (hampion )ill +e a)arded the official 4egional Perpet&al Trophy.
