Banking institutions have emerged as very essential for everyone, poor as well as rich. It is needed to deposit and protect the saving however meager it may be. Poor laborers, construction workers and others migrating to the urban centers of the country from remote corners must have access to banking to transfer their earning to the families in far off places. Also several social initiatives, welfare programs and schemes of the government both state and central do require bank accounts of those targeted below poverty line segments to receive money safely in their account. Also credit is provided to people through banks. All these requirements have made banking an inevitable part of life of today men and women. Islamic teaching is mainly categorized i.e. Ibadaat and Muamlaat. Muamlaat includes economic activities. As it is cleared from the last address of Holy Prophet PBUH that today I have completed the religion (way of life) for you. Then how can anyone says that there is ambiguities in Islamic Banking. When it is said that Islam is a complete code of life then banking is no exception to it. The guiding principal of Islamic banks includes every transaction must be free from interest and there should be no uncertainty regarding every transaction. As Pakistan was made in the name of Islam so after separation of Indo-Pak, it was decided that there will be no interest based economy. Instead of interest based economy, there will be interest free economy. Efforts towards the islamization of banks and economy were started in the era of Zia Ul Haq in 1970,s. Federal shariat court was established in 1991and its purpose was to transform interest based economy into interest free economy. Sometime after its formation the shariat court orders that the transactions of banks which are interest based shall be considered null and void with effect from June 30, 2001.
