Faculty Development Program

Faculty development refers to that broad range of activities which institutions use to renew or assist faculty in their many roles. It is a planned program to prepare institutions and faculty members for their academic roles and to strengthen an individuals knowledge and skills in the areas of Teaching, Counseling, Research and Administration. The goal of faculty development is to orient faculty members towards the skills relevant to their institutional setting and Faculty position, and to sustain their vitality both now and in the future. Evidently, Faculty development has become an increasingly important component of Engineering education. Understanding these needs, several Staff development activities have been planned and designed to enhance teacher effectiveness at all levels of the educational continuum. Recent FDP was conducted during 17-19 Apr 2013. It was attended by 25 participants from across the Departments. It was inaugurated on Wednesday, 17.03.2013 by Dr S P Danao, Principal, AISSMSCOE, Pune-01. In his welcome speech, he highlighted the importance and objectives of organizing faculty development programs. He opined that if faculty wants to develop themselves and their students, then attending such Faculty Development Programs would enhance their skills practically in 21st century. He shared few upcoming activities to be undertaken by the College. He highlighted the role of Faculty in the development of the Institute. He further shared his vision of taking AISSMS to the global standards through: 1. Development of Faculty 2. Development of Students 3. Innovation, Quality Research, Consultancy and Resource Development. Dr Shyamkant Deore, the Co-ordinator of Faculty Training Cell of AISSMS, briefed the participants about the subjects chosen for FDP and highlighted the reasons and importance of the Best Practices in Teaching Pedagogy and latest Teaching Learning System. He also discussed the importance of Counseling the students. Program schedule was as follows: Day One (17.04.2013, Wednesday) S-1 : Ice-breaking session conducted by Dr Shyamkant Deore S-2 : Role of Teacher in Higher Education conducted by Dr Shyamkant Deore S-3 : Self Realization/Role Clarity by Ms Aditi Patil of Swayam S-4 : Project Report- BE & ME by Dr S P Danao Day Two (18.04.2013, Thursday) S-1 & 2: Pedagogy & Teaching methods by Dr Ms M Khaladkar, COEP S-3 : Pedagogy-Drawing Inputs by Prof P R Wani, AISSMSCOE S-4 : Project Proposal-R&D by Prof V L Gole, AISSMSCOE Day Three (19.04.2013, Friday) S-1 : Time Management & Counseling Techniques conducted by Dr Shyamkant Deore S-2 : Pedagogy Practical conducted by Dr S P Danao S-3 : Perspective Plan for CoE conducted Dr S P Danao S-4 : Feed back and Valediction by Dr Shyamkant Deore The Faculty Development Program was very interactive and instrumental in enlightening the Faculty with their Role clarity, Teaching Pedagogy, Student Counseling/Mentoring, conducting Lecture, Practical, Project, Research and Consultancy. The participants were involved thoroughly through Assignments, Role Plays, Management games etc., which made the FDP interesting. It was concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants.
