Gun Control First Draft
Gun Control First Draft
Chance Newcomb Ryan English 2 Pre-AP-1st Period 24 February 2014 Why gun control should not be implemented in Government Are all laws really created to help the citizens of America? Or are they just to keep us from realizing what the government really does behind closed doors? Gun Control is one of those laws that wont help the people but just the government and what they think is right for the people. Though gun violence does occur, and its not right, its not the guns that harm people but the people behind the guns that do the real harm. Gun control is an issue that is always under debate and you will find many advocates for both sides, but the laws that would be put into place would not as much affect those it is targeted to, but the gun-toting, law-abiding, American Citizens. Mass Shootings ranging from large regions such as Washington D.C. to small towns such as Newtown, Connecticut happen all the time, yet we always hear about how the guns are the cause of these killings and not how the people that commit them can be blamed. The government always reacts the wrong way to mass shootings in the past and now, It perhaps was inevitable that the recent sniper killings in the Washington-area suburbs would be seized upon by advocates of gun control. Like so much in the agenda of the political left, gun-control arguments would collapse like a house of cards if people just stopped to think through what is being said instead of being swept along by emotional rhetoric (Sowell misuses). As are all the opinions of extremely left wing people there is no sense in some of the arguments of the past. When anything goes wrong the blame is never put on the people that have created this problem, but the objects
that could help solve these problems if in the hands of the right people. Gun control advocates are always trying to find reasons to get rid of guns, yet they never look at the facts they should, but instead only the ones they want to, Gun-control advocates also use misleading statistics about lower murder rates in selected countries with strong gun-control laws as compared with murder rates in the United States. What these advocates studiously avoid mentioning are higher murder rates than ours in other countries that also have strong gun-control laws (Brazil and Russia, for example), or lower murder rates in some countries, such as Israel, where guns more widely are available than in the United States (Sowell misuses). As the facts show, gun control has worked in some countries, but these countries were extremely different from the United States because of how they handled them and how the government acted like a bunch of animals implementing it. As the left wing advocates have repeatedly shown, they have no idea what theyre talking about when it comes to guns. Guns help contribute to the stability in a society by being the, equalizing force, available to all free people everywhere (Coryell 40). As someone who has grown up around guns, and knows how to use them can understand this as well as anybody. When someone who is much larger than you is coming towards you with no intentions of stopping, the only thing that will stop them is a bullet. And when that someone intends to do harm to you, you want to stop it. Statistics prove that, When it comes to the rate of gun ownership, that is higher in rural areas than in urban areas, but the murder rate is higher in urban areas. The rate of gun ownership is higher among whites than among blacks, but the murder rate is higher among blacks. For the country as a whole, hand gun ownership doubled in the late 20th century, while the murder rate went down its not racism but simply facts that disprove what has been a reason for gun control in the past (Sowell disarmed). In inner city areas there always has been and always will be a problem with shootings yet those are not the
ones the media focuses on. As a society we are looked down upon by the government when the issues prevalent in government all happen in small towns and big cities too. Gun control has been a constant issue yet the way it is trying to be solved is not the right way at all. As the time looms near where a decision will be made on gun control, whether it be the Obama Administration or some other, but they need to take a harder look at the facts before they make any rash decisions, that could terribly affect the U.S. as a whole. Though some would argue this not true, People are the problem--including people who are determined to push gun control laws. There is innocent ignorance and there is invincible, dogmatic and selfrighteous ignorance. Every tragic mass shooting seems to bring out examples of both among gun control advocates (Sowell disarmed). The true ignorance of people is brought out when they begin to discuss a field they have no experience in and the main ones that do this are our American politicians. These that have no idea what theyre talking about are the ones that we, as Americans, have votes into office and expect to make decisions that will benefit the American people. As rates of murder were looked at they all pointed to the fact that, Neither guns nor gun control was the reason for the difference in murder rates. People were the difference (Sowell disarmed). As revealed many times, it is not the guns that are causing the problems, but the people behind them that have no respect for their own lives or those of others. Once it is proven that the guns are the issue in these cases then there is a valid point to gun control but until then its just a bunch of baloney. Though we are supposed to trust our leaders, President Obama, the candidate who promised Americans in 2008 that I will not take your guns away, now, as President of the United States in 2013, has embraced the universal firearm confiscation of Australia and England has not always been completely honest when it comes to his plans in the future (LaPierre). When there is a trust issue in the leaders of America, that is
when we should realize the wrongs we are being done by the government and their plans for the well-being of all Americans. How can we trust someone who has blatantly lied to the American people to make the right decisions for us? One person can ruin everything for everyone even though it will not affect them because, Why would someone who obviously is willing repeatedly to break the laws against murder be unwilling to break gun-control laws? (Sowell misuses). Our politicians tell us that these laws will solve everything, but as we have seen before and will see in the future, people are made to rebel and not want to listen. If we continue letting our politicians make rash, not thought trough decisions, then America will be seen as a weak nation, and the wrong people will have the power. Those opposed to Gun Control always come back to the same conclusions that because it has worked for other countries means that it should work for us but the situations those other countries are in have not helped the public because law-breakers will always be law-breakers. Yes gun control has worked in some cases such as, President Barack Obama has used Australia as a positive example of a country that tightened gun laws after a mass shooting (LaPierre). But Australia had a major problem everywhere unlike the U.S. in which the government decides what we should and shouldnt know. A way to fix this is to prove to the government that the people are the problem and not the weapons being used. Though after these laws were put into place there has been a, There is a gun battle going on in Australia. As bike gang members and drug dealers gun each other down on a regular basis, sending fear through the community, authorities seem to be fighting a losing battle to keep firearms out of their hands (LaPierre). It is proven here that when a law is put into place it will not be followed. If you were restricted from something that had always been a commodity how would you react? The experts argue that, The fundamental problem was the ready availability of high-powered weapons, which enabled
people to convert their murderous impulses into mass killing (LaPierre). This argument has no validity because of the people that argue it and their lack of knowledge on the subject. The argument has been the same because the people arguing have no other reasons to end this social struggle, and have to resort to this argument. Apparently we are a, culture that all too often glorifies guns and violence yet we are able to make a decision to elect a president that will give away food and shelter and healthcare to those that do not work for it and all we ask is that we are able to keep our constitutional rights (Gun Violence). The truth is that no one wishes for violence because of the effects of it, yet it has been perceived that any gun-toting conservative is a violence advocate. When it is perceived that violence is good, then we will be a society of bloodthirsty animals. As it has always been said, Guns dont kill people, People kill people. Gun Control is an issue that we should all be involved in whether you are opposed to it or for it, because it will eventually affect us as a generation because of the leaders we choose to put into place. Though not all the issues of gun-violence can be solved a good place to start is to reinstate our mental institutions and test people that could potentially become violent people. Now whether you are for or against gun control itself, stop and think: Would you rather have someone you can trust armed so they can protect you? or never know what could happen if someone attacked you and no one around could prevent it.
