Best during the day Best during the late evening and night -------------------------------------------------------------------------1. ura gallery (urban redevelopment authority) 2 hrs - there is a city gallery there, good to have overview of singapore city and planning 2. marina bay cluster (the newest development area in singapore thats by the bay) 0.5 -1 day - marina bay sands (casino, hotel w sky pool) ****not recommended to pay for the sky bar/ better go to one altitude (30 $ with a drink) - LV pavilion (v cool) - science and design museum (icon!) - esplanade (aka the durian, theatre and concert hall) - fullerton bay hotel and fullerton hotel (one modern one historic by the bay and river) - gardens by the bay (newest park with mega trees and tree top f&b) - merlion of course (singapore kitsch tourist symbol) [Restaurant] One on the bund 3. tiong bahru conservation area (old post war walk up apts and cool f&b/retail cluster) 4 hrs and meal 4. dempsey village (converted army barracks to cool f&b) meals 5. sentosa (our resort island) 0.5 -1day - resorts world casino and masterplan by michael graves - universal studio theme park - a bunch of beaches and theme rides/activites for the family (v weather depending) 6. henderson wave nature walk 4 hours - a series of bridges linking parkways and green belt through central south singapore (award winning) (v weather dependent) 7. little india (authentic shophouses and not touristy) 3 hours & meal - race course road has all the good indian f&b 8. arab street (authentic shophouses and indie retail/f&b) 3 hours & meal - haji lane for cool shops 9. chinatown and ann siang hill (authentic shophouses but a bit touristy in parts) 4 hours and meal - ann siang hill is particularly pretty [Restaurant] PS Cafe 10. hdb heartland (housing development board) 3 hours and meal - these are the famed public housing that singapore is famous for, over 80% of singaporeans live in these - check out ang mo kio or toa payoh for some older neighbourhoods that are being revamped (you can see older and newer flats co-existing) - take an mrt train there as part of the experience 11. duxton plain, the pinnacle 1 hour - the newest hdb that was an international competition. 50 stories w sky gardens on 2 levels... v cool and multiple award winning
12. orchard road shopping belt 0.5 - 1 day - the famous mall belt - ion mall (newest and highest end) - tangs (singapore's own heritage dept store) - orchard central (cool shopping mall on very narrow plot) 13. raffles hotel - classic colonial hotel - try royal china restaurant there (by mod) 14. cool boutique hotels/ hotels - new majestic hotel, chinatown (by mod) - the club hotel, ann siang, club street, near ura (by mod) - wanderlust hotel, little india - studio m, robertson quay - cappela, sentosa (norman foster, old meets new) - amara resort, sentosa (v garden) 15. nature reserves/parks/zoos - sungei buloh (wetlands) 3 hours - macritchie reservior and park (one of the first) 4 hours - botanical gardens (central, v beautiful, orchid gardens) 3 hours - jurong bird park 3 hours - singapore zoological gardens 4 hours - night safari and singapore zoo 4 hours (v famous) - punggol promenade (by the sea facing malaysia, v popular on the wkends w kite fliers) 16. cool furniture shops - space asia hub (bencoolen street) v impressive collection of contemporary high-end furniture - purvis street collection of furniture shops (near raffles hotel) like boffi, etc 17. cool institutional buildings - school of the arts (by woha) near dhoby ghaut mrt. v cool lofted building - lasalle college of arts (macnalley road), v cool public space between 2 black blks - national museum singapore (near bras basah) restoration done v well w modern addition 18. clubs/night spots - kudeta, on top of marina bay sands (drinks or dinner w 360 view of singapore) - One altitude, raffles place (out door drinks or in door dinner w highest view in town) - clarke quay nightlife cluster (alsop masterplan w conservation shophouses) - st james power station, converted power station w multiple clubs, f&b and bars. (at the gateway to sentosa) - zouk, classic singaporean club that's survived the changing tastes... in an old warehouse (zion road area) - avalon, marina bay. a glass and stone pavilion in the bay on the water. v spectaular 19. cool condominiums - the colonade by paul rudolph. modernist classic (near patterson road) - pearl bank apartments, brutalist 60's masterpiece (chinatown) - newton suites by woha (award winning incorporates greenery in massive way) newton area - interlace by oma (buona vista area, under construction till 2013) conceptually very strong - reflections by keppel bay by daniel libeskind (interesting form making) telok blangah area 20. beachside/waterside attractions - marina at keppel island, prive restaurant, nice marina - tanjong beach club, sentosa. chill out f&b/pool club on the beach front
- 3 spots along singapore river - boat quay, clarke quay, robertson quay- all offering f&b / clubs (you can walk all the way along these 3 quays (1 hour) 21. art/galleries - national museum singapore (possible mixture of contemporary and classic depending on on-going shows) public spaces are great! (stamford road) - singapore art museum or SAM (mainly contemporary) in a converted old school (bras basah area) - gilman art cluster (under construction till 2013) a neighbourhood of local, asian and international galleries - Tanjong Pagar district park cluster (independent galleries) 22 Bugis Junction [Restaurant] Ma Maison
