OBJECTIVES;

THE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:

 State three reasons why the Spanish came to Brunei.

 State the Sultan who ruled Brunei at that time.

 State the main reason why the Spanish attacked Brunei.

 State when the Spanish to attack Brunei.

 State who led the Spanish to attack Brunei.

 Name the two Bruneian nobles that helped the Spanish.

 Explain the reasons why did the two nobles helped the Spanish.

 State how long did the Spanish occupy Brunei.

 Name the Bruneian Warrior who led the army to defeat the Spanish.

 State when the Spanish was defeated.

 State the effects of the Castille War.

PROCEDURE/METHODOLOGY

• INTRODUCTION

* Brainstorming and suggestion from students ( enhance creative thinking)

• CONTENTS

* Explanation by the teacher briefly.

* Activities for students ( to make the student participate in the learning process
as well as to make the lesson fun and enjoyable.)
MATERIALS

*Newspaper cutting, pictures, handouts and textbooks.

ASSESMENT

• *Written work – short exercises of questions e.g.

1. List three reasons why Spanish came to Brunei

2. State two effects of the Castile War.

* Quizzes & Oral questioning – to check their understanding and recall of the
lesson.

* Activities –rearranging pictures of the Castille War

 State the reason why Southern Philippines supported Sulu rather than
Brunei.
 State who were the sea nomads of Brunei.

 State the importance of the sea nomads to Brunei.

 State why Brunei need protection in the 18th Century.

INTRODUCTIONS:

* Recapping the previous lesson and relating the subtopics.

* Explanation and oral questioning( for critical thinking)

CONTENTS

* Explanations of the contents. (notes in point & timeline)

* Activities – written exercise (c/w or h/w), quizzes.

N.B. oral questioning can be done throughout the whole lesson to check the
students understanding of the topics being taught.

• MATERIALS:

*Handouts, pictures and map of Sulu

• ASSESSMENT:

* Written exercise – class work/ homework.

* Drawings and Colouring of maps.

 WRITTEN EXERCISE

1. List three reasons why Spanish came to Brunei.

2. State the sultan who ruled Brunei at that time.

3. State and explain the reasons why the Spanish attacked Brunei.

4. Name the two Bruneian nobles who became traitors.

5. State two effects of the Castile War.

This exercise can be done by group work where the students can discuss among
themselves.

 ORAL QUESTIONING

This is done to check the students’ understanding on the topics taught.

 ACTIVITIES

Example of activities can be in group work in the form of role play. The characters
include

1. The Sultan (Sultan Saiful Rijal)

2. Pg Bendahara Sakam

3. Pg Seri Lela

4. Pg Seri Ratna

5. Dr Francisco De Sande

6. Spanish missions ( two students)

7. Brunei warriors and Spanish armies ( remaining students)

 REARRANGING PICTURES

Students do this activities, whereby teacher distributes paper cutting of the Castille war
randomly. The students’ task is to arrange the pictures in their proper sequence on the
whiteboard. This activity is actually to stimulate the students’ interest and recall of the
lesson taught.
