Geography http://www.discoveryeduc ation.com/northamerica/ev ent.cfm Take your students on a virtual field trip to Glacier National Park, and learn about the habitat in this scenic wonderland! This was my favorite out of the three featured videos about North America at Discovery Education. The hosts, Jennifer and (especially) Laura, keep things lively as they explain what drew them to work at the park as rangers. Students will learn about the animals that inhabit the park, and the rangers answer questions from students at schools from around the country. Acceptable for K - 6.

Nevada State College EDEL 453 - Spring 2014 Karen Powell- Instructor page 6 History & Geography Trip to the Zoo http://www.readwritethink.o rg/parent-afterschool- resources/activities- projects/take-virtual-field- trip-30290.html?main-tab=1 Observe animal habits and habitats using one of the many Webcams broadcasting from zoos and aquariums around the United States and the world. Simply watch and wonder, or invite children to record in observation logs or notebooks and participate in discussions and questioning. This activity can also lead to research on animals and their habitats. By looking at the Webcams, children learn to look closely and think like scientists. Children then ask questions and want to find the answers. This simple activity can lead to many other exciting projects!.

1. Explain which field trip you are most excited about. I think that the Tecatticup Mine would enrich students about Nevada history. I have taken the tour on three occasions, and I found it very interesting. If you were to visit, you would find that mostly families with children enjoy the site on weekends, while field trips come during the week. There is ample opportunity for some great photos for photographers.
2. What challenges did you run into during this assignment? I really didn't know what "virtual field trips" were until I began to look them up. The Social Studies classes where I work at Cannon Middle School use virtual field trips all the time. It used to be that teachers would have to create power- points themselves, which can be quite time consuming. Basically, the challenging part of this assignment was, as you said, "thinking outside the box." I want interesting, "wow" kind of field trips for my students to engage in.
