MeshToGeometry Reference Abaqus612

This document provides instructions for creating geometry from element faces in an orphan mesh in Abaqus/CAE. It describes how to manually select element faces to combine into a single geometric face. It also explains that Abaquus/CAE will attempt to create analytical geometry shapes like planes, cylinders, cones, spheres, toruses, lines and circles wherever possible. The process of selecting element faces individually, by angle, layer or analytically is covered. It notes that selected faces will be stitched together to form a shell part or solid if enclosed, and that the mesh does not automatically associate but can be later.

Creating Geometry from an Orphan Mesh
As you add faces, Abaqus/CAE stitches new faces
to any existing geometry to produce a shell part.
If produce an enclosed volume, can create a solid from the
shell part if desired.
When you are finished creating new faces, you
can use the other tools in the Geometry Edit
toolset to repair the geometry if needed.
Note that the mesh is not automatically associated
with the geometry.
Can associate the mesh via
Mesh > Associate Mesh with Geometry.
Alternatively, delete the original orphan mesh, and create a
native mesh on the new geometry.
