2014 Conservation Projects
You can help protect, restore and improve our local natural areas and resources this spring! Join
Public Works and your fellow citizens as we clean up streams, improve trails, plant trees and flowers,
pick up litter and make our planet a better place for us all! In just six weeks, we can make a world of
difference! Call Deb Oliver, Public Works at (703) 792-6819 to volunteer.
Please note that the projects are subject to updates and changes as we draw closer to the actual
event. We will provide additional information and future projects at the conference. We are
providing this information so you can plan as a family on the project/projects you would like to
undertake.
Prince William County Dog Park
Off Minnieville Road near Colby Drive
March 15 from 9 a.m. to noon
Registration begins at 10:00 a.m.
Bring water, sunblock, shovels, work
gloves. We re improving soil conditions
and adding native plants to slow the flow
of stormwater runoff, prevent erosion,
and improve community appearance.
Blue Bird Box Project
Leesylvania State Park
April 5 from 9 a.m. to noon
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Bring water, sunblock, work gloves and
dress to be outdoors and to get dirty. We
will build and put up new blue bird boxes
at the park to replace the old ones.
Wisteria Removal at Rippon Lodge
Blackburn Road in Woodbridge
April 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Bring water, sunblock, work gloves and
dress to be outdoors and to get dirty. We
will be removing invasive wisteria from the
grounds to help protect trees. We will also
plant wildflower seeds. Lunch provided.
Prince William Forest Park Cleanup and
Restoration
March 22 from 9 a.m. to noon
Meet at Pine Grove Picnic Area
Registration begins 8:30 a.m.
Bring water, sunblock, work gloves, hat
and insect repellent. Dress to be outdoors
and to get dirty! Bring a picnic and enjoy
the park after the project.
Earth Day Festival
Tacketts Mill Shopping Center
March 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Registration begins at 10:30 a.m.
Host games and crafts for visitors to the
festival. Help raise awareness about the
importance of protecting our planet!
Dress to be outdoors. Food and drinks
will be available for purchase or bring a
lunch.
Work at Landfill Buffer
Prince William County Landfill
April 26 from 9 a.m. to noon
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Bring water, sunblock, work gloves and
dress to be outdoors and to get dirty. We
will be preparing the area and making
improvements for access to this amazing
natural area by local students and citizens.

Come learn the important ecological roles each plant plays in a well designed and harmonious garden from
noted gardening expert and college professor, Doug Tallamy. The lecture will be held on Sunday, February 16,
2014 starting at 2 p.m. at the Manassas Park Community Center, 99 Adams Street in Manassas Park. All are

Help with the Occoquan Clean Up in April 2014. Take part in this multi-agency effort to clean up the
Occoquan River from Lake Jackson to the Town of Occoquan. Kayaks, canoes and boats are needed! For a

Join the Prince William Wildflower Society at its 28th annual Spring Wildflower Garden Tour, an educational
event to highlight the use of native plants in the garden. This years tour will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2014

Day at Balls Ford Road Compost Facility. A paper shred will be available to citizens at the Balls Ford Road
