Product description
DDBMA is an application direct product that leverages an enterprise application data
protection framework to provide an application centric data protection. The DD Boost
modules integrate with the following technologies:
The framework by using DD Boost
Data Domain, a purpose build backup appliance
DDBMA enables database and application administrators to efficiently back up and
restore their applications by using the applications native tools. The users do not need
much expertise to use the product.
DDBMA 1.0 supports only Microsoft SQL Server. The DDBMA for SQL Server module
integrates with the SQL Virtual Device Interface (VDI). The interface enables the user to
configure the module by using a plug-in in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. The
plug-in is similar to the SQL native backup and restore Graphical User Interface (GUI).
Therefore, the database administrators (DBAs) can use the Microsoft native tools to
backup and restore the SQL data.
New features and changes
DDBMA 1.0 provides the following features:
A plug-in for SSMS to perform backups and restores
An interface to perform backups and restores by using GUI and Command Line
Interface (CLI)
Scripting capability to back up and restore databases which can be scheduled
DDBMA 1.0 provides the following capabilities:
Backups and restores of databases in SQL standalone, cluster, and AlwaysOn
configurations
Backups and restores by using the Data Domain Boost technology
Full, incremental, and differential backups and restores
Multi-stripe backups and restores
Backups and restores over Fibre Channel (FC)
Parallel backups and restores of databases by using the scripting option
Point-in-time restore
Restores from a secondary Data Domain device if the secondary device is configured
by using the Data Domain MTree Replication technology

Environment and system requirements
The EMC Data Domain Boost Compatibility List at My.DataDomain.com (Documentation >
Compatibility Matrices) provides details about the versions of operating systems,
database servers, and other software that DDBMA supports.
The EMC Data Domain Boost for Microsoft Applications Release 1.0 Administration Guide
provides details about the environment and system configurations required to operate
DDBMA.
Known problems and limitations
The following are the known problems and limitations of DDBMA for SQL Server:
DDBMA for SQL Server crashes if you cancel a backup (177206)
The DDBMA for SQL Server Save program crashes if you cancel either a general backup or
a striped backup by closing the GUI.
Backup and restore fail on x86 hosts when you perform the operations in
the debug level 4 or more (179635)
If you perform a backup or a restore on an x86 host by setting the debug level to 4 or more
in the Options page of the GUI, the operation fails.
The Configuration file is missing. error appears when you try to select the
Data Domain server in the Restore page (184697)
In the Restore page of the DDBMA window, the following error message appears when you
try to select the Data Domain Server by clicking the button next to the field:
The Configuration file is missing.
Workaround
Click OK to ignore the message, and perform restore.
Known problems and limitations

A Data Domain server that is added in the Restore page does not appear in
the Backup page (184720)
If you add a Data Domain server in the Restore page of the DDBMA window, it does not
immediately appear in the Backup page.
Workaround
1. Exit the DDBMA window.
2. Start the DDBMA application.
After a restore, synchronization of a database by using the secondary
database fails (179661)
After you restore a database, if you try to synchronize the database by using the
secondary database, the operation fails.
Workaround
You must always perform a full synchronization from the primary database.
Unable to browse and restore a SQL database from a secondary Data
Domain device (185184)
You cannot browse a database and restore the database from a secondary Data Domain
device.
Workaround
Run the following command on the target Data Domain device:
ddboost storage-unit modify <storage_unit> [user <user_name>]
[tenant-unit <tenant_unit | none>] [quota-soft-limit <n | none>
{MiB|GiB|TiB|PiB}] [quota-hard-limit <n | none>
{MiB|GiB|TiB|PiB}] [write-stream-soft-limit <n | none>]

| none>] [combined-stream-soft-limit <n | none>]
[combined-stream-soft-limit <n | none>]
The logs do not have SQL Server 2014 in the supported SQL versions list
(187969)
The DDBMA for SQL Server logs do not contain SQL Server 2014 in the supported SQL
versions list.
The system cannot find the file in the logs message appears during the
SQL Server 2014 RTM backups and restores (188079)
Sometimes the following message appears during the SQL Server 2014 RTM backups and
restores:
System cannot find the file in the logs.
Workaround
Ignore the message because the backups and restores however succeed.

Technical notes
The object not set to ref of an object message appears while browsing on
the Restore tab (188091)
Sometimes the following message appears when you browse the backups, which you
want to restore, on the Restore tab.
Object not set to ref of an object.
