ABOUT SHIV NADAR UNIVERSITY
MISSION
The University's mission is to help students acquire and develop knowledge, skills and leadership
qualities of the 21st Century and beyond.
Shiv Nadar University (SNU)is a pioneering effort of Shiv Nadar Foundation (SNF)
(www.ShivNadarFoundation.com) in the field of higher education which aims to create a Centre of
excellence in higher education, which will be at par with premier education institutions across the
world. The university has been founded with the goal to help India regain its ancient glory.
Envisioned as one of India's foremost research led, multidisciplinary universities, the Shiv Nadar
University has been set up to build a landmark institution in higher education in India. The University
is dedicated to the discovery, development, organization, preservation, dissemination and application
of knowledge in a wide range of fields with a goal to expand the scale and scope of human
understanding and contribute to the betterment of the world. With the Shiv Nadar University, we
bring about a shift in higher education by creating something new and more relevant to the global
landscape.
Its most significant differentiator will be the strong emphasis on research and learning that will cut
across all schools to break the silos, to deepen and broaden the learning process. The idea is to
actively engage faculty and students to constantly create knowledge rather than just disseminate it.
Envisaged to become an enduring global center of learning and higher education, the Shiv Nadar
University will be anchored in research, innovation and technology, supported by an outstanding
faculty, exceptional students and international academic partnerships.


SCHOOLS
SNU has envisioned the following schools under its umbrella, providing the students a diverse
academic experience and a well-rounded personality. These are:
School of Engineering
Launched in August 2011, the School of Engineering (SOE) is a pioneering effort in the field of
engineering under the aegis of the Shiv Nadar University.
The School of Engineering aims to provide an international ambience in a local setting with
innovative and engaging teaching methods, international guest speakers and key partnerships
in research. The institute encourages group learning and provides value-added hard and soft
skills workshops along with key internships each summer.
The School of Engineering currently offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral
programs in five streams of engineering -- Civil Engineering, Computer Science and
Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and
Mechanical Engineering. The School of Engineering also provides meritorious applicants with
scholarships, internships and other opportunities to enable them to get the finest education.
About the Director
Dr. M Gopal is the Director for the School of Engineering, SNU. He joins the Shiv Nadar
University from the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi. His teaching and research
stints span three decades at the IITs. He is a globally known academician with excellent
credentials as author, teacher, researcher, and administrator.
School of Natural Sciences
The School of Natural Sciences aims to provide an international ambience in a local setting
with innovative and engagingteaching methods, globally benchmarked curricula, world class
faculty, and key partnerships in research. The institute encourages group learning and
provides value-added hard and soft skills workshops along with key internships each summer.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs have been designed on the basis of SNU's
underlying philosophy of interdisciplinary and research-led learning.
About the Director
Dr. Rupamanjari Ghosh is an eminent teacher, a renowned researcher, and a great
academician. Her research interests are Experimental and Theoretical Quantum Optics, Laser
Physics, Nonlinear Optics, and Quantum Information. She is a former Dean, School of Physical
Sciences at JNU. Professor Ghosh completed her PhD from the University Of Rochester, USA.
She pursued MSc at the University of Calcutta and MA at the University of Rochester.


School of Humanities and Social Sciences
In keeping with the overall objective of the Shiv Nadar University, the School of Humanities
and Social Sciences help students distil and assimilate the knowledge that already exists, but
also develop new and deeper insights to add to the stock of existing knowledge.
This has been made possible by rigorous classroom teaching, round-the-clock interaction
among students from different disciplines housed in the same campus and faculty that follows
a single dictum "Good researchers make good teachers." Students are taught both the
abstractions necessary for scientific enquiry and the skills needed to solve immediate and
local problems. Our students aretherefore, adept at whatever career they choose, be it in
business, government, or research.
About the Director
Dr. Shubhashis Gangopadhyay is a well-known economist and a former advisor to the Union
Finance Minister. The youngest ever Secretary to the Government of India, he is a PhD in
Economics from Cornell University, USA, and the Founding Director of India Development
Foundation.
School of Management and Entrepreneurship
The SME intends to launch its maiden program, the Master of Business Administration in
2014. The program is designed specifically to respond to the needs of industry and to provide
a high quality education to students who have the passion to develop themselves into
outstanding leaders of organizations.
The SME realizes that in India and in many developing countries; governments, in spite of
their best efforts are not in a position to create enough jobs for the teeming millions. It is
therefore necessary that universities like SNU play a role in creating entrepreneurs, who
would have the ability to create new businesses that generate jobs for the large number of
unemployed youth in the country. Realizing this need, the SME plans to offer programs and
organize activitiesto train and encourage students to become entrepreneurs.
About the Director
Professor Shekhar Chaudhuri has held faculty and administrative positions in management
institutions of repute in his long career including Director at IIM Calcutta, faculty at IIM
Ahmedabad, visiting faculty at College of Business and Administration, Southern Illinois
University at Carbondale, Illinois, USA, and Dean at Vinod Gupta School of Management at IIT
Kharagpur. Professor Chaudhuris teaching and research interests are in the areas of strategic
management, management of technology and innovation and international management. He
has received many awards for his contribution to management education including the
Bharat Asmita Acharya Shrestha Award 2009 and the Ravi J Mathai National Fellow Award
by the Association of Indian Management Schools in August 2012. Dr. Chaudhuri holds Ph.D in
a Doctorate in Management from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, with
specialization in Business Policy and a B.Tech (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from
IIT Kharagpur.
