40-GbEconnections,theG8264alsohasthecapabilityforlegacy1-GbEconnections.TheG8264
supportsthenewestprotocolsincludingDataCenterBridging/ConvergedEnhancedEthernet(DCB/CEE)
forsupportofFibreChanneloverEthernet(FCoE)inadditiontoiSCSIandnetwork-attachedstorage
(NAS).

TheG8264alsosupportsIBMVirtualFabric,whichhelpsclientssignificantlyreducecostandcomplexity
relatedtoI/Orequirementsofmanyvirtualizationdeployments.VirtualFabrichelpsreducethenumberof
multipleI/Oadapterstoasingledual-port10Gadapterandreducesthenumberofcablesandrequired
upstreamswitchports.ByusingVirtualFabric,youcancarveadual-port10Gserveradapterinto8
virtualnetworkinterfacecards(vNICs)andcreatededicatedvirtualpipesbetweentheadapterandswitch
foroptimalperformance,higheravailability,andimprovedsecurity.WithVirtualFabricIT,youcanmake
dynamicchangesandallocatebandwidthpervNICsothatyoucanadjustitovertimewithoutdowntime.
TheRackSwitchG8264isthefirst10GbEswitchtoofferbenefitsofOpenFlow.OpenFlowisthenew
openapplicationprogramminginterface(API)thatenablesthenetworkadministratortoeasilyconfigure
andmanagevirtualnetworksthatcontroltrafficonaper-flowbasis.Itcreatesmultipleindependent
virtualnetworksandrelatedpolicieswithoutdealingwiththecomplexitiesoftheunderlyingphysical
networkandprotocols.WithOpenFlow,clientscaneasilycreateuser-controlledvirtualnetworks,optimize
performancedynamically,andminimizecomplexitywhenusedwithanindustrycompliantOpenFlow
