Expectations:
I have great expectations for my students.
I am confident that by working together we can master the 5 Rs of Learning:
! Responsible I take control of my learning and try to do what is best for others and myself.
! Resilient I never give up or let my feelings get in the way of learning new things.
! Resourceful I find different ways to learn by seeking answers and learning from others.
! Reflective I review what I have done and take pride in making it better.
! Ready I am prepared and excited to learn. I want to learn, and I always give my best effort!
In this course, students will attack
rigorous mathematics with a sense of
purpose in order to achieve mastery of
many new skills and an understanding of a
variety of new concepts with great depth.

The class will actively engage in large group
instruction, teamwork, partner activities
and individual assignments. Assignments will
include practice, calculator activities,
projects, and writing assignments.

8 Algebra 1/Geometry
Periods 2 - 3

Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to meet the Algebra 1 and Geometry requirements of the Common
Core Mathematics Standards recently adopted by the state of Ohio. This course will be taught
over two class periods (total 80 minutes per day). Students will complete the Algebra
requirements for the state standards for the first two quarters then transition to the
Geometry state requirements for the remaining two quarters of the school year.

How I Will EARN my Grade:
Clear learning targets will be given for each unit. The majority of your grade will be earned by
demonstrating mastery of these learning targets on assessments. Assessments will include
unit tests, quizzes and projects. All graded assessments will remain in the classroom.
Assessments will be passed back an reviewed during class time. Parents/Guardians are
welcome to view assessments before or after school by appointment.
Students may be given an opportunity to reassess on specific learning targets that require
more practice, but students may not be able to reassess on any unit tests. See the Re-
Assessment Application for further information.

Homework Policy:
Homework effort leads to high achievement on the assessments. Completing homework every day
is both expected and crucial to your success. Points will NOT be awarded for homework.
Reassessment opportunities will only be given to those who give their best effort on homework.

Please be aware of the Brady Middle School absence policy. You will be given as many days as you
were absent to complete your work. YOU are responsible for obtaining the work you missed while
you were out. Materials for absences will be available on our course website and in our classroom.
