INTRODUCTION
A footbridge for crossing a small stream with a horizontal top cord is to span between the
two piers A and G. It consists of two identical trusses, space 1 meter apart. A pin connected truss
is used, consisting of steel members bolted together to steel gusset plates. All the trusses are
having the same length. It uses pin as a support at point A and horizontal roller as a support at
point G. Two vertical loads of 455N are placed with a distance of 1m apart with each other.
The target we must achieve is to get the complete force analysis and cost estimation
along with the scale drawing, identifying in the drawing the tensile and compressive force in
each member. Lastly to specify the maximum safe live load for the bridge and the diameter of the
pipe to be used.
OBJECTIVES
Discussion
Base on the Steel pipe table thats given to us. Wed decided to use the steel pipe with
diameter of 13mm with the maximum Tensile and Compressive load of 20kN available for each
truss.
Thus making the maximum safe live load on our bridge will have this safety unit:
Maximum force in our bridge, both for Tensile and Compressive load = 513.84N
Hence,

CONCLUSION
The objective of this project is to apply the concepts learned in our static class. This
project has made us become clearer on the concept of moment, compressive and tensile force. As
seen above through the steps of this project we have shown the process of constructing a bridge
based on specific measurements. We also calculate every force exerted on the members and the
joints. These calculations were done using the free body diagrams and method of joint. Lastly,
we have completed the task by calculating the cost of the whole project as shown above. Having
undergone through the whole process of designing the bridge, we concluded that the bridge and
these kinds of projects need precise work and we also must work together as a team at the same
time. This work is a huge responsibility that will affect human's life, thus we should count every
single detail in calculation. The cost of the bridge also must be suitable with the design and
safety of the bridge.
