Experiment Procedure:
A. Activate a Command Line Interface (CLI) window
1. Go to Start button on the left-bottom corner of your desktop,
and drug to Run, see below.

2. Click on the Run option. A Run window will appear with blank
field.

3. On the blank field, type CMD and click OK. A CLI window will be
activated, and it will appear as below:

4. Retrieve the Local Area Connection Properties window, by Clicking
Start, drag to Settings > Network Connections > Local Area
Connection and Click on.

A Local Area Connection Properties window will appear as below:

Pull the Horizontal Bar down to the bottom and locate the Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) option. See below.

Double-Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Below window will


appear.

Click on Use the following IP address radio button and fill the blank
field, below is an example value:

Press OK button, and the window will close. IP manual configuration has
just been completed.

Check the changes of the IP.

Go to CMD window.

Type ipconfig on the CLI window and press [Enter].


Your new configuration will appear as below:

Configure IP to DHCP or Automatic Obtain.

Go to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window The window will appear as


below:

Tick on Obtain an IP address automatically radio button.
Press OK button, and the window will close.
Youve just completed the IP automatic configuration (DHCP).
Check the changes of the IP.
Go to CLI window.
Type ipconfig on the CLI window and press [Enter].
Check the result.
What is the difference between Automatic and Manual configuration ? And how
are they different ?

Ping to a Host

Activate the CLI window.

Type Ping host address and press [Enter]

A reply will be received in seconds, showing the connectivity


between your PC and the targeted host (in percentage of packet
loss).
