Things to know

about
Second Grade!
Promotion Policy
and Pink Cards
Promotion policy states students
must pass two of the following
subjects (reading, math, language
development) and science or social
studies
Please sign the pink card and leave on
your childs desk at the end of the
night.
Internet Usage Form
2014-2015 Handbook
Please look at page 1 questions 1
and 2 and select yes or no.
Fill out, sign and date page 2
Sign the bottom of the form.
Tear out page and leave in the
folder at the end of the night.
Tuesday Folder
The Tuesday Folder will come home
every Tuesday. Please look over all
the graded papers. Please sign
beside the conduct grade and the top
page of the stapled graded papers.
Return to school on Wednesday.
PLEASE send back ALL graded
papers!
Parent Check-In Policy
Please check in at the office and
receive a visitor tag before coming to
the classroom.
If you would like to talk about your
childs performance a conference
must be set up. I have planning time
everyday at 10:25-11:10. Please give
me at least one day notice.
Homework
Your child will have math, reading,
and spelling homework Monday-
Thursday night. If your child does
not have their homework the next
day they will complete the homework
assignment during recess.
Dress Code
Shirts MUST be tucked in.
Belts MUST be worn if the pants have belt
loops.
Socks must be worn.
No sandals, crocs, boots.
Leggings must be solid school colors.
Jackets must be solid school colors.
School colors are navy blue, red, white.
Discipline Policy
In my classroom we use ClassDojo. I will
write your childs daily conduct grade down
in the Homework Folder. Please initial the
Homework Folder above the conduct grade
EVERY night.
Utilizing Class Dojo as well but still not
proficient yet, but getting there.
Medication
Any medicine that needs to be taken at
school must have a doctors note. It must
be left in the office and administered by
Mrs. Robinson in the office. DO NOT send
any medicine with your child. (cough drops,
tylenol, chap stick)
If your child has any allergies please write
me a note.
Lunch Money
Please pay for your childs lunch weekly or
monthly.
You may go online and put money on your
childs account. If you do not know how to
do this please call the cafeteria.
Please send only things that your child can
open by themselves.
No soft drinks allowed.
Transportation
All changes in transportation
must be done in writing. If
your child does not give me a
note they must go home their
normal way.
Testing
DIBELS tests your childs reading fluency and
comprehension (August, January, and May)
STAR computer generated test given in the
library. This assessment shows their independent
reading level.
AIMSWEB grade level/benchmark testing
No high stakes test available as of now in 2
nd

grade

Online system where you can check
your childs grades.
I will post weekly grades by Tuesday
when the Wildcat Folders come
home.
Graded papers will begin going home
Tuesday after Labor Day
Common Core State Standards
This is a state wide mandated curriculum
that guides us in everything we teach.
We use a new Reading Series called
Wonders. This program heavily embeds
Science and Social Studies in students
reading practices.
We are using Eureka Math.
Math Facts
Addition and Subtraction math facts are very
important in the 2
nd
grade curriculum.
Starting next week Math Fact tests will count
as 10% of the math grade.
I will test both Addition and Subtraction

Oral Reading
Fluency
Your child will read a passage to me for
1 minute every two weeks. Each month
the words per minute goal increases.
For Sept. the goal is 50 wpm and will
increase with each month.
This is NOT graded
