Product description
MCS-2 and MCS-3 are customer specific (Caterpillar) products with additional M4 controller board for engine monitoring and
protection included in the generator protection unit module GPU, ref. separate Type Approval Certificates A-13552 for GPU and
A-13553 for GPU-3.

The software is indentified by the following versions:

MCS-2 MCS-3
Application SW 2.44.X 3.0X.X
M4 board SW 2.0X.X 2.0X.X

Approval conditions
The Type Approval covers hardware and software listed under Product description.

When the type approved software is revised to an extent affecting DNVs Rules a notification and access to an updated software
version history is to be given. For major changes a new functional type test may be required and the certificate may have to be
renewed to identify the new software version.

The documentation to be submitted for approval in each case is to cover the M4 option and otherwise as stated in the Type
Approval Certificate for the GPU/GPU-3, i.e.:
- Reference to this Type Approval Certificate
- System block diagram
- Power supply arrangement (may be part of the System block diagram)
- Functional description including unit option information
- Test program for commissioning test

As long as the delivered system is covered by the Type Approval, a product certificate according to Pt.4 Ch.9 Sec.1 A 202 is not
required. Correct configuration and set up for each delivery to be tested during commissioning after installation onboard.

Type Approval documentation
Tests carried out
Applicable tests according to Standard for Certification No. 2.4, April 2006.
