!lay .n /ind has been made possible by the generous support of $he !lay %tudio, &hiladelphia, &A, and $he Northern 0urlington !ounty 1egional %chool
istrict, NJ2 also pre"iously by a grant from the 1uth 3al"orsen &rofessional e"elopment 4und of the National Art 5ducation Association and the Northern

Eli3ibility is open to high schools in New Jersey. 5ach high school 9grades :-)'; is limited to a maximum of three original ceramic artworks, only
one per student, either functional or sculptural. %tudents must be enrolled in the sponsoring art teacher<s class of that high school. 6lea/e !ote7 #ork
created from ceramic clay only, which has been kiln fired. ue to their fragility, clays, which are self-hardening, and 4imo/%culpy type clays are ineligible.
Also, objects singularly produced from commercially a"ailable slip cast molds are not eligible, meaning that if the object is lifted directly from the mold,
cleaned, fired and gla=ed, then it is not eligible. %lip cast objects that ha"e been altered, combined with other slip cast objects and/or handmade pieces
are eligible. 5"idence of creati"e license, must be present. 4inal eligibility will be at the discretion of the juror.

passion for ceramics started when he was four taking classes at local art centers in his hometown in !hester !ounty. that passion intensified during
buying trips to Asia for his family<s import business where he witnessed a rich ceramic history. After studying architecture for a year at 1hode .sland
%chool of esign in &ro"idence, 1., he listened to his heart and transferred into the ceramics department and graduated with a 04A. %hortly after he
recei"ed a scholarship to li"e in Jingde=hen, !hina and study, immersed in the @porcelain capitol of the world@, before returning to &ennsyl"ania and
disco"ering $he !lay %tudio in '+)+. %ince then, ceramics has become his life, producing, teaching, selling, and continuously learning more.
Juror0/ *tate>ent7 $his contest seeks to promote excellence in ceramic achie"ement among high school students in New Jersey, while at
the same time demonstrating the di"ersity of works being created in this media. $herefore, it is open to all original works whose primary medium is
ceramic, ranging from functional to sculptural. Although craftsmanship will undoubtedly play a significant role in the selection of the pri=es, pieces will be
judged ultimately on artistic merit and creati"ity. 1ecogni=ing all jurying is subjecti"e, the work will be judged on technical competence, artistic merit, and
creati"ity.A
A<ard/7 At the discretion of the judge a number of pieces will be selected as outstanding and will be included in a special exhibit, /ay )-:, '+), at
$he !lay %tudio, &hiladelphia. 9$ypically, eight students are selected for )

place;. A closing reception for these
winning students, their families, art teachers, and administrators will take place on %aturday, May 2 2015 270013700p> at $he !lay %tudio. *tudent/
and art tea4her/ >u/t be pre/ent 8or the entire re4eption and >u/t re>o?e /tudent art<or5 at 3700p>: All winners will recei"e ribbons, and
certificates/plaBues. &articipating art teachers will recei"e ? professional de"elopment hours. All participating teachers will be in"ited to participate in a
workshop gi"en by a renowned ceramic artist on April )*

during the jurying of !lay .n /ind and take away techniBues to use in his/her classroom. $he
workshop will be gi"en at Northern 0urlington 3igh %chool in room '+:. At the time of this mailing we are in"ol"ed in a broad search of an artist who will
pro"ide all teachers with a creati"e professional de"elopment opportunity in ceramicsC &lease look for a follow up communication from me regarding the
artist and exact time 9$his workshop replaces the workshop for winning students and their teachers held in the summer. 3owe"er, all other pri=es remain
the same;.
Tran/portin3 entrie/ to N0!13% is the responsibility of the indi"idual art teacher. Art teachers will be assigned an exhibit area and will be
responsible for setting up their studentsD artwork by :E++am, April )*th. oors will open at *E(+am. 5ntry forms will be used as the exhibit label after the
jurying takes place. Art teachers will recei"e exhibit labels and an exhibit sticker to affix to the piece for blind jurying in the mail prior to the exhibit date.
