Project #2: Ethics Remix: A Multimedia Exploration of Ethics

What cannot be doubted is that we are now flooded daily with news distortions, often just
careless but too often deliberate, writes Wayne Booth. Through repetition, the media distorts
our understanding of the world. For Project #2, you need to select an issue of your choosing
that has suffered intense misrepresentation in the media. Through a montage of video clips and
your own voice, you are to create a 2-3 minute video that illustrates and analyzes the ethical
implications of this issue. Your video should function as a stand-alone piece. Along with your
video, you need to write a statement of goals and choices in which you explain your process of
creating your video.

Your video must

include some audio commentary by you on the ethical implications of the issue
feature at least four video clips (more is fine)
function as a stand-alone piece
demonstrate careful crafting of an argument
be between 2-3 minutes


Your statement of goals and choices must

document your goals and choices
evaluate the effectiveness of the project
be between 900 and 1,500 words
include a works cited page, following MLA, for all references, including video references


This project (25% of your grade) will be based on your submitting a complete draft and a final.

Schedule:
Sunday, October 19: Write a 600-word response that analyzes what techniques were used to
make the two short films and explain what topic youd like to explore for you own remix.

Include at least 4 links to video clips that youd like to work with. Post your response to
Blackboard.

Tuesday, October 28: Post a draft of Project #2 to Blackboard (both the video and the write
up). Your draft should be a minimum of 900 words (3 pages). We will view and workshop
movies this day. If you do not submit a draft, your grade will be reduced by one-letter grade.

Thursday, November 6: Before class, post Project #2 to Blackboard. No hard copy necessary.
