Course Overview
This career pathway is designed to provide information and field experiences relevant to
pursuing a degree in education, and to prepare students for the rigors of a career in
education. Project Teach exposes students to a career path in education that allows them
to build and formulate their own educational philosophy throughout their experience. The
pathway will target common core standards focused on the foundational skills needed to
enhance students as learners, future educators, and communicators. Students will be given
the opportunity to create meaningful learning through a project based approach. They will
gain skills that will prepare them to serve as mentors and tutors for elementary school
students. Students will be required to perform career experience hours that will provide
them the opportunity to implement their learning.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Identify educational, occupational, and leadership opportunities in the field of
education.
2. Analyze the importance of emergent technology in the instructional process.
3. Understand how the historical and social contexts of education have influenced
contemporary schools.
4. Analyze the role of service learning in teaching and learning.
5. Identify the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development characteristics of
the learner from birth to adolescence.
6. Identify, demonstrate, and evaluate communication skills in the field of education.
7. Research, describe, and design an effective learning environment.

Academic Integrity
Academic dishonesty is a serious offense, and it will be dealt with accordingly. Be mindful that this
class will require you to write essays that will require you to research and use others information to
strengthen your arguments. You must always give others credit for their work. Please use this

Textbook and Course Materials
You will access the readings and websites through the Learning Management System. You will
need a Google and Haiku account.

1. All students must have a Gmail address provided by Google Accounts.
2. You will be assigned a Haiku (LMS) account that will provide you access to the class.

Grading Criteria for Course
This course will be based on a variety of components. Please be aware of all due dates as any work
that is turned in late will be docked a full letter grade. Late discussion responses will not be taken
into consideration unless there is a valid excuse. The criteria that will be used for this course is as
follows:
Attendance: 10%
Discussions: 10%
Classwork: 20%
Summative Assessments: 40%
Final Project: 20%

Attendance and Participation
Our class will be meeting three times a week for whole group instruction. This means that your
attendance will be imperative to your success in the classroom. We will be covering a lot of
information during these sessions that will be critical to meeting the learning objectives for this
course. Please be advised that part of your grade will come from your attendance and participation
in class (10%).

Discussion Board Policy
The discussion board is a large part of this class. Every student will be required to post their weekly
original comment by 11:59am on Friday. Every student will also be required to reply to two other
posts by 11:59 am on Sunday of the same week. Every post must be content related and provide
personal insight to the weeks topic. This will be some of the most meaningful learning that you will
take away from this class as we will all be learning from one another.

Late and Missing Work Policies
In order to provide you with constant feedback and the best opportunity to succeed in this class I
would like to ask that you please submit your work in a timely manner. Students will be given
multiple opportunities to demonstrate proficiency on every assignment. My class does not and will
not allow any student to fail if the student is invested and motivated to learn.

2. Determine knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to work in the
teaching profession. (DOK 2)
List dispositions of effective teachers.
Discuss the importance of self-directed learning.
Discuss the importance that all students can learn.
Discuss that students learn at different paces even when exposed to the
same educational experience.
Identify diverse interests of students (e.g., classic literature, automotives,
family, and politics).

3. Analyze the importance of using technology in the instructional process
(ongoing). (DOK3)
Examine acceptable policies for use of technology in schools, including
strategies for addressing threats to security
Identify legal/ethical behavior and safety issues regarding the use of
technology and information.
Analyze advantages and disadvantages of widespread use and reliance on
technology in teaching and in society as a whole.
Explain how technology can be used to enhance teaching and learning.
List and discuss the various types of technology.
Explore and use technology to solve problems and make decisions.(LMS,
