INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Chicken broiler and egg production are the most progressive animal enterprises in the
Philippines today. The poultry industry in fact began as the backyard enterprise but has shifted to
the formation of very large integrated contract farming operations.
The growth of poultry industry in the Philippines has been impressive but its problems
include inefficient management and the prevalence of many destructive poultry diseases and
parasites cannot be ignored. This manual provides technology and management know-how for
poultry raising which we hope present poultry raisers and prospective poultry producers may
find useful in effectively managing their poultry farms and also help them realize substantial
financial returns from their enterprise in this period or high production cost inputs.
The chicken manure usually contains about 76 water and possesses very bad smell. !t is
common to the poultry raisers to smell the odor of the chicken manure because poultry farms are
commonly built for chicken. The odor of the manure makes the work of the poultry farmers more
difficult and it may cause some lung problems.
" foul eliminator on chicken manure poses some problems# it contains some chemicals
which may destroy our environment# it may cause diseases to farmers when accidentally
misused# and it is e$pensive that some poultry farmers cannot afford.
%ome alternative materials were used as a foul eliminator to save money. " foul
eliminator is a dry and powderized materials placed over the manure to absorb the odor of the
manure and it is used to cover the surface of the manure to block its odor from spreading. !n the
past years# they use ash to eliminate the odor but it is not effective as of the commercialized
deodorizer# some also use charcoal because it can absorb odors and prevent from spreading.
%ome alternative materials can also be used in eliminating the odor.
Carbonized rice hull is made from incomplete or partial burning of rice hull. !t undergoes
a controlled burning process where the dried rice hull is heated until they are carbonized. C&' is
a very good soil fertilizer and conditioner.!t also harbors good bacteria and it serves as houses for
beneficial microorganisms. (eodorizer)odor suppressant is one of its uses# C&' is sprinkled
over the beddings of the pig pen# under the dog cages and other foul odor causes.
%awdust or wood dust is a by-product of cutting# grinding# drilling# sanding wood with a
saw or other tool* it is composed of fine particles of wood. !t is also the byproduct of certain
animals# birds and insects which live in wood# such as the woodpecker and carpenter ant.
Powderized pandan leaves are pandan leaves which are dried by the air and then pounded
to be powderized. +hile still on the plant# pandan leaves are scentless# but when e$tracted and
slightly crushed they release an aroma similar to that of dried grass. Pandan is used to add
fragrance to food# such as rice and desserts. Pandan leaves are also used as a source of fragrance
in %outheast "sian homes# and knotted and dried# they are even used to freshen the air in
,alaysian ta$is.
Statement of the Probem
This study titled -Carbonized &ice 'ull .C&'/# %awdust .%(/ and Powderized Pandan
0eaves .PP0/ as 1oul 2liminator on Chicken ,anure3 aims to produce a locally# affordable and
simple foul eliminator using rice hull# sawdust# and pandan leaves.
%pecifically# this study tries to answer the following 4uestions5
6./ Can C&'# %(# and PP0 serve as foul eliminator on chicken manure7
8./ +hich is more effective to use in eliminating foul on chicken manure7 C&'# %(# or
PP07
9./ 'ow to carbonized rice hull7
:./ 'ow to powderized pandan leaves7
;./ +hat is the effect of the C&' if it is combined with PP0 on the odor of the chicken
manure7
Hy!othe"#"
Ho$ Carbonized rice hull# sawdust and powderized pandan leaves mi$ture does not
e$hibit any change in eliminating the odor of chicken manure.
Ha$ Carbonized rice hull# sawdust and powderized pandan leaves mi$ture can eliminate
the odor of chicken manure.
Ha$ C&' is more effective to use in eliminating foul on chicken manure than %( or
PP07
Ha$ There is a great effect on the odor of the chicken manure if the C&' is combined
with PP0.
S#gn#f#cance of the Study
The carbonized rice hull# sawdust and powderized pandan leave minimize the use of
money because this material can be found around us and it is environment friendly. !f this study
will be a success most of the poultry farm would not need any commercial deodorizer. The
pro<ect aimed to protect the environment to the pollution instead of using a commercial
deodorizer.
This study aims to produce cheap# affordable and simple foul eliminator that can be
effective in the odor of the chicken manure like those of the commercial deodorizer sold in the
market. This study also aims to help a lot of poultry farmers and also the people that have this
kind of problem to be aware on the proper caring of the farms.
The result of the study would help poultry farmers and peoples that have this problem to
maintain a clean surrounding. !f half of the problem of manure eliminating could be provided
with the right solution at the poultry farms# then half of the problem about manure odor would be
significantly addressed and solved.
Sco!e and %#m#tat#on"
This study will be conducted at a poultry farm in =rgy. >7 Caunayan# City of =atac. The
materials will be gathered in the areas of =atac City and the carbonization and powderization of
some of the materials will also be conducted in =rgy. >7 Caunayan# City of =atac. This research
is limited to the evaluation of the efficacy)effectiveness of carbonized rice hull# sawdust and
powderized pandan leaves mi$ture to the elimination of odor of chicken manure.
