Masthead follows from the

front cover so the branding


the magazine is sustained. It
also follows the convention
of the contents page.
Rule of Thirds have been applied as the
main image is focused in the middle thus
in the central hot spots at eye line. The
right third is also covered with the
articles. These choices of third
alignments allows readers to focus on
the main image and thus go to that
article but then look towards the right
(following the processing of looking left
to right) to allow them to navigate to the
other articles.
Main Image is the same
artist (Lil Wayne) from the
front cover this implies that
the magazine wants the
target audience to focus
extra attention on this
article. It also applies mise-
en-scene since Lil Wayne is
giving a police mugshot like
photo by staring at the
camera hence following the
connotation of the rebellious
nature of rappers thus
identifying the magazine
genre.
Date line is under the title and allows people with various
copies of the magazine to know when the magazine was and
so that the articles are recognized from that period of time to
show how the magazine and music culture has evolved across
time.
Column(s) one column since the contents pages are
split to A-Side and B-Side hence multiple columns
wouldnt be necessary. It is positioned in the right
third therefore people would focus from the main
image then look towards the right to know the article
pages. The column allows the articles to be organized
clearly and not dotted around the page, which would
cause difficulty when trying to find out what articles
are where.
Title negates from the
convention of being
generically Contents by it
being A-Side allows readers
to know that one half of the
magazines articles are on
this page and can go to the
B-Side so they can find the
articles of the other half. You
would expect it all to be one
page rather than two sides.
House style has been applied
through the colour scheme
being followed from the
front cover (the black & red).
Also the masthead has been
applied this house style is
sustained and keeps the
branding of the magazine.
Layout is again simplistic as
the main image is in the
center and there is only one
column for people to focus
on to allow them to find
what articles they would
want to read. It follows
convention through use of
page numbers and the title
being at the top.
Tone of Language is informal
and slang like for example
Go get out of my face this
sustains the rebellious and
aggressive nature of rap
music and hence identifying
the target audience as they
would relate to such
language and find it normal.
This creates the feeling of
direct address to the
audience as it builds a friend
like relationship to the
audience.
Page Numbers allow the
articles to have relevance as
the articles on the contents
page would have no purpose
without a page number to
navigate to. There it follows
the convention of the
contents page.
Fonts are bolder in the title so it is more recognized and they all
have the sans serif font throughout so it is easier to read and
clear for readers to see. Therefore it creates a simpler
experience and the audience doesnt find trouble when
navigating.
