News From Room 207: Important Dates
A
reminder of your time slot is coming home in Monday folders.
I am looking forward to speaking with all of you about the
wonderful progress your children are making so far this
year.
Our Grandfriends Luncheon is quickly approaching on
November 17, 2014. I have attached an informational sheet.
The luncheon order forms for this event are due this
Monday, 11/3/14. I hope your child will invite a Grandfriend
to join us for this meaningful event.
Our Fall Festival on Friday was a huge success. We
completed several crafts, played games and danced. Thank
you for the donated supplies and/or for helping out at the
party.
Our top readers for October were Nathan Anderson with
964 minutes, Abby Salt with 945 minutes and Chris Lebel
with 922 minutes. Our class read a total of 10,856 minutes.
Way to go everyone. Lets keep it up in November.
As temperatures begin to fall, please be sure your child is
dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. It is also a good
idea to send in a sweater/sweatshirt for the classroom. We
will try to get outside every day.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or
concerns.
Warmly,
Sandra Travers

Our Rock Cycle informational piece is
complete. We will begin looking at narrative
writing next. During Daily 3, we will be working
on making strong connections that help us to
better understand the text. All reading and
think cards for Literature Circles will continue
to be due on Thursdays.
Read Aloud
We are enjoying the adventures of the feuding
Hatford and Malloy families. When a new
family--with three daughters--moves into the
neighborhood, the Hatford brothers decide to
make Caroline and her sisters so miserable
that they'll want to go back to Ohio. Be sure
to ask your children about the adventures of
these two families.
Math
We will continue with Chapter 3 this week.
A packet of math homework will come
home in the green homework folder.
Nightly assignments will be recorded in the
planner. Your children need to practice
math facts nightly also. We will be
completing weekly mad minutes to check
our progress.
Social Studies
Please send in your old magazines that
have pictures of natural resources in
them. Ms. Doherty is working on a
project including these pictures.
Science
We will have a check in on the Rock Cycle
on Friday. Rock Cycle Flash Cards will
come home on Monday. We will begin our
investigation of soil next week as we
explore a website called Herman the
Worm.
