Spain - Endesa's Smart Metering Roll-Out Programme

Endesa is rolling out a smart metering system throughout Spain to replace all meters for customers using less than 15kW of power by the end of 2018. The regulatory framework requires 30% replacement by 2013 and full replacement by 2018. Endesa's plan is to install 3.5 million smart meters by the end of 2011 across 114 rollout areas using over 100 contractors. The smart metering system uses an open communication protocol and will help reduce carbon emissions through integrated smart energy services.
