OUR MISSION
STATEMENT:

A P R I L S M U S I N G S
Church family,
Its officially autumn.
Weve had a few cool
days, the leaves are
beginning to fall, as well
as the acorns, and the
days are getting shorter.
Thanksgiving comes
only once a year. It is a
time for families to come
together over the perfectly baked bird and other
goodies. The parade is
put on TV and it is a time
of togetherness.
As we come to this
time of year I am reminded that Thanksgiving

Rev. April Wegehaupt

should be a way of life.

We should all live every
day as a gift from God.
We must seek to
squeeze the beauty out
of every moment that
God gives us.

gratitude, by which we
may offer to God an
acceptable service with
reverence and awe; for
our God is a consuming
fire.
~Hebrews 12:28-29

I pray that this

November you and your
family will begin to
discover Thanksgiving
as a way of life. Strive
daily throughout
November to give God
thanks.

Thanksgiving is
Thanksgiving, a life of
gratitude, a work in
progress.
Blessings,
Rev. April

Therefore, since we
receive a kingdom
which cannot be
shaken, let us show

JOHN WESLEY ON
THANKFULNESS
We give thanks with
a grateful heart to all
those who helped to
make the bazaar
successful this year.
A special thanks to
Anita DeLaTorre for the
many hours spent in
the kitchen along with
the faithful volunteers.
Thanks to Paul Myers,
for his excellence as an
auctioneer. (We think
you have great potential if you ever stop
delivering the mail!)
And finally, thanks to
all who crafted those
fine items and devoted
time, talent and gifting
to the bazaar of 2014.
We raised $4,500 to
help pay off the debt
on the screen.
Well done good and
faithful servants.

THIS YEAR THERE IS A CRITICAL NEED FOR

COMMERCIALLY PREPARED FOOD.
The Missions Committee will be collecting food for our
local food pantries this year. Non-food items such as
toilet paper, paper towels, etc. are also welcome.
Cash donations are greatly appreciated as well.
Please be sure to write Food Pantry in the
memo line of check.
Note: NO outdated food items please.
Date for this years Round-Up is
November 15th from 8am1:30pm
at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Lawrence.

CHURCH OF CHANUTE, KANSAS

in the Search Bar

Our new sound system now has a nice new cabinet to

house it in thanks to a very generous donation from the
Caldwell family and the labor of Tim Hatch in getting it all
together and moving the equipment into it.

John Wesley was

about 21 years of age
when he went to
Oxford University, but
in those days he was
a bit snobbish and
sarcastic.
One night, however,
while talking with a
porter, he discovered
that the poor man
had only one coat and
lived in such impoverished conditions that
he didn't even have a
bed. Yet he was an
unusually happy
person, filled with
gratitude to God.
Wesley, being immature, thoughtlessly
joked about the
man's misfortunes.
"And what else do you
thank God for?" he
said with a touch of
sarcasm. The porter
smiled, and in the
spirit of meekness
replied with joy, "I
thank Him that He
has given me my life
and being, a heart to
love Him, and above
all a constant desire
to serve Him!" Deeply
moved, Wesley recognized that this man
knew the meaning of
true thankfulness.
Many years later
John Wesley laid on
his deathbed at the
age of 88. And despite his extreme
weakness, Wesley
began singing the
hymn, "I'll Praise My
Maker While I've
Breath."

church with our prayers, our
presence, our gifts, our service
and our witness.
We hope you will be a part of
the ministry of the First United
Methodist Church. If you would
like to become a member, please
give us: Name(s), address, phone
number, e-mail address, anniversaries, birthdays and if you are
already a member of some other
church or not. If you are, we also
need the name of the church and,
if possible, the address. Please
give this to the pastor, or leave in
the church office.
