Setting Out

The document discusses the process and objectives of a setting out survey for a building construction project. It outlines three key elements needed for setting out: vertical control, horizontal control, and horizontal arrangement. The objectives are to determine piling points, dimensions within the project area, and construct a piling plan. Equipment used includes a total station, prisms, hammer, pegs, and compass. Procedures involve planning, determining points from a tachymetry plan, surveying the location, setting up the total station, opening bearings, labeling points, checking distances, and recording readings. Analysis of results found minor errors within acceptable tolerances. The conclusion is the survey objectives were achieved by successfully marking points according to the bearing and

TITLE: SETTING OUT SURVEY

1.0 INTRODUCTION
Setting out is a process using measuring instrument and techniques to transfers the data
from plan to points on the earth surface. Practically its a reverse process of measuring
and it is carried out by an authorized at the site for a construction project. Generally, for
setting out, three different elements are required:

Vertical control to ensure all the new marks are at the correct position.

Horizontal control to ensure all the new marks are at the correct height.

Horizontal arrangement to ensure the all the points on the earth surface are
perfectly horizontal.

2.0 OBJECTIVE
2.1 To determine the point of piling for building construction.
2.2 To determine the dimension of plan inside project area.
2.3 To construct piling plan by using software.

4.0 PROSEDURE
4.1

Firstly survey and planning is required to be done before starting to

measure.

4.2

The location, reference point 4 and point 3 as a datum, bearing and

distances of the building were determined from Tachymetry plan.

4.3

Survey the location area and determine the bearing and distances for all
line of building from reference point.

4.4

Setting out the entire instrument included built set of total station and
tripod at the reference station 4.

4.5

Use station 3 as a reference bearing (datum) and built sets of prism and
tripod.

4.6

Set the bearing from datum, then start to open for first bearing (point A)
by refers to bearing and distance from the tachymetry plan.

4.7

By using measurement tape, label point A such as the distance from

tachymetry plan.

4.8

Repeat step 4.6 to 4.7 for point B,C,D,E and F.

4.9

Then, check the distances with measurement tape by using trigonometry

method for every point that was label.

4.10

The height of set of total station was taken.

4.11

Record all the reading in table.

6.0 DISCUSSION
6.1 We set the bearing from station 4 to station 3, whereas the total station we set up
at station 4. After that we adjusted the total station horizontally till we get the
required bearing for each point.
6.2 From the bearing to each point, we fixed the distance for each point by the data
obtained from tachymetry plan.
6.3 We ensure the positions and the distance of the point are accurate.
6.4 From the trigonometry checking we obtained an error in the distance and
exceeding 0.003m from point A to point C after a group discussion with our
lecturer, we realize the error occurred due to our mistake in marking the points.
Answer:
The methods used for setting out the points are field work method and deflection
angle method:

DEFLECTION ANGLE METHOD

7.0 CONCLUSION
As a conclusion, we have successfully marked the point of our hotel according to the
bearing and distance. So we achieve the objective of setting out survey as state.
