HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The town of Famy is located at the Northeastern part of the Province of Laguna. In
the East, it is separated from the Municipality of Real, Quezon by mountain ranges in the
North,, it is separated from the Municipality of Sta. Maria, Laguna by mountain ranges which
is a continuation of the Sierra Madre mountain. In the West and South it is separated from
Mabitac and Siniloan respectively by links of hills planted with coconuts. The history of town
as a barrio of Siniloan dates back to the year 1612 when its natural resources were first
exploited by the busy hands of home seekers from Daraitan, Tanay, Rizal. These home seekers
named the place Calumpang, after a big shady Calumpang tree that grows in the heart of the
place.
Year after year, the inhabitants of the placed increased. People from nearby town came to
a place to gamble their luck with the vast area of uncultivated lands.
After years of constant struggle for the development of the place, they succeeded in
making the lands suitable for food crops. They especially made use of the lowlands where
more of the inhabitants settled. Home industries gained interest among women. Spiny bamboos
were planted as raw materials for the basket industries that remained the same industry up to
the present.
In the year 1835, when the people realized the constant changes of the place, from the
bedlam of wilderness to a barrio worthy of becoming a town, they for the first time, sought
from the town of Siniloan to become a municipality with its own government. Their plan was
rejected because of the meager population of the barrio. The people did not lose their hope,
again the prominent men of the barrio tried to secure the separation. Promoted by the feeling of
patriotism, men from the barrio voluntarily presented themselves as revolutionist claiming that
they will fight on the side of General Emilio Aguinaldo, if the General will help making the
barrio a town. So after the revolution, the President of the Republic of the Philippines,
Calumpang was separated from the Municipality of Siniloan. The barrio which was renamed
FAMY in the place of the ancestral name Calumpang. This was in memory of General Emilio
Aguinaldos mother, Mrs. Trinidad Aguinaldo y Famy.
request, the Governor General issued Executive Order No. 60 series of 1910, separating
Famy from the Municipality of Siniloan, Laguna. This order took effect on August 15, 1910.
MOTHER MUNICIPALITY
The mother municipality of this town is Siniloan. The history of this town as a
barrio dates back in the year1612. Famy, was separated from Siniloan in 1898 during short
lived of Philippines Republic under President Emilio Aguinaldo y Famy. But when American
took possession of the island, Famy became independent from Siniloan on August 1910.

with clayey texture of minor extent and suitable for urban uses.

DISPUTED AREAS
The boundary dispute between municipalities of Famy and Siniloan relative to territorial
jurisdiction over Barangays Liyang and Kapatalan has remained unsolved. In the 1962 decision
of the Provincial Board of Laguna, it favors the Municipality of Siniloan. A motion for
reconsideration on the decision was filed with the Provincial Board within the reglamentary
period.
After a series of Municipal Council Resolutions filed with the Provincial Government,
the case remains STATUS QUO.
