Dear Parents,
MESSAGE OF THE WEEK

Thank you for your flexibility when delivering children this week. The tarmackers are due to complete
works to the front of school by the end of Thursday, however all pathways are now open for normal
delivery and collection of your children. Sorry for any disruption, it should improve the appearance and
access to our school in the long term.
PARENT GOVERNOR VACANCY
We are eagerly searching for a parent governor. There is a place for 1 parent governor on the governing body of this
school. Parent governors are elected by parents of current pupils at this school to serve a four year term of office, it is
necessary for an election to be held. Interested parents need to have current pupils in school at the time of election. If
you have any interest in this please contact the school office or the Headteacher for a nomination form and any
further information about what the role entails.
The timetable for the election is:th

URGENT RETURN OF SPORTS KITS
We have 8 missing red and black school sports kits missing which are worn when children represent the school. Please
can parents return as soon as possible any kits - shirts, shorts and socks - which have been borrowed for children
about to represent the school in forthcoming competitions. Many thanks.
YEAR 3 AUTHOR VISIT
We are very fortunate to have an author visit our Year 3 children Helen Moss is a popular and significant author for
this age group and the children are about to embark on reading one of her books. A contribution of 3 has been
requested from Year 3 parents to help us make this happen. Your support is most appreciated and the day will be a
really valuable one for the children.
YEAR 6 TRIP TO BOREATTON PARK
Year 6 are already getting very excited about their forthcoming adventure to Shropshire in the summer, the bad news
th
is the next instalment of 50 is due by Friday 6 February. Please could all payments be sent in sealed envelopes and
placed in the secure grey boxes around the school. Cheques can be made payable to Lancashire County Council (LCC).
th
Just for your information the final payment will be 40 and will be due by 20 March.
PTFA BINGO
Our first Bingo evening was really enjoyable, it would be lovely to see this regular event grow to become a really
popular evening where prizes, including cash prizes will be available. The next Bingo evening is planned to be on our
rd
first evening back after half term on Monday 23 February at 6pm in the junior hall. Please come for an hour of fun!

WELFARE ASSISTANT VACANCY

We are sadly losing one of our welfare staff at the end of the month and we would like to ask if there is any interest in
applying for this vacancy. The job will entail supporting the children eat their meals, supervising their behaviour and
playing with them over the lunchtime break from 12-1pm each day at 7.65 per hour. Please enquire at the office for
further details and an application form.
NURSERY PLACES FOR SEPTEMBER
If you have a child who is already three or will turn three before September 2015 and you are interested in your child
starting in our nursery, please feel free to come to the office to collect an application form to put their name down.
Please see the back of our newsletter for details on our open day.
PARENTAL FEEDBACK
A parent has suggested a wonderful idea for a collection point in our school entrance for the Bamber Bridge Food
Bank. We support this each harvest but you are most welcome to place odd tins or dried foods in the front entrance
throughout the year. We will then ensure that it arrives safely when enough has been collected. We hope that you will
feel happy to support this every so often when possible.
Another idea has also been suggested. Unwanted school uniform that is donated to the school can be brought to the
front entrance and we would like to sell this very cheaply to parents needing spares or larger sizes, at the end of each
school term.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
Im happy to inform you that following the school councils efforts, a new cycle shelter has been built in the quad area
between the two school buildings. This is a dry storage area for a number of bikes to be stored if staff or children
choose to cycle to school. Please feel free to use this rather than leaving any bicycles against the railings.
Im also delighted to announce that the children and I have applied for a grant promoting road safety and have been
awarded 1825. The School Council have already designed and worded messages for signs and parking cones to be
used at the front of the school to reduce levels of congestion and encourage considerate parking in order to put
everyones safety first. Hopefully we should see these changes in full use in a few weeks time once they have been
manufactured.
