Here are some of the commonly prescribed Chinese herbal
formulas that you may combine for the treatment of various
womens disorders. Under each subheading you will find
the formulas for a particular condition or group of related
conditions. Depending on the degree of complexity of the case,
several formulas in the same group may be prescribed together,
appropriate to the TCM syndrome patterns that are present.

1. Menopausal hot flushes and insomnia


Er Xian Tang (Deficiency of the Kidney Qi and Essence, Fire or floating Yang due to Kidney deficiency)
Gan Mai Da Zao Wan, Jia Wei (Heart Qi-Blood-Yin deficiency, loss of control, overwhelmed by emotions)
Zhi Bai Ba Wei Wan (Kidney Yin deficiency with Fire flaring)
Tian Wang Bu Xin Wan (Heart-Kidney Yin deficiency, Heart-Kidney disharmony, severe anxiety and insomnia)
Jin Gui Suan Zao Ren Tang (Liver Blood and Yin deficiency, anxiety, irritability)

2. Breast Lump (fibrocystic breast disease); breast soreness before periods


Chai Hu Shu Gan Wan (Liver constraint Qi stagnation, Qi stagnation and Blood stasis)
Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (Liver constraint with Heat, Liver Qi invasion of the Spleen)
Tao Hong Si Wu Wan (Blood stasis with Blood deficiency)
Huo Luo Xiao Ling Dan (Blood stasis and pain)
Nei Xiao Luo Li Wan (nodules due to Phlegm-Heat, Qi stagnation and Blood stasis)

3. Menopause related depression or anxiety


Wen Dan Tang (Phlegm-Heat retention, Stomach Heat, Gallbladder Qi invasion of the Stomach, agitation, poor sleep)
Xiao Yao San (Liver constraint, Liver Qi invasion of the Spleen)
Gan Mai Da Zao Wan, Jia Wei (Heart Qi-Blood-Yin deficiency, loss of control)
An Shen Ding Zhi Wan (Heart Qi-Blood deficiency with agitation)
Tao Hong Si Wu Wan (Blood stasis with Blood deficiency)

4. Dysfunctional uterine bleeding; bleeding due to fibroids; menopause related uterine bleeding
Gui Pi Wan (Spleen Qi deficiency, Heart Blood deficiency)
Zuo Gui Wan (Kidney Yin-Essence deficiency)
Si Jun Zi Tang (Spleen Qi deficiency, retained Damp)
Bu Zhong Yi Qi Wan (Deficiency of the Spleen Qi, Spleen Yang Qi sinking)
Si Wu Wan (Blood deficiency)

5. Menopausal dryness (e.g. dry skin, dry vagina)

Tong Jing Wan (Blood stasis in the Chong and Ren channels, i.e. the uterus)
Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan (Blood stasis binding with Phlegm in the uterus)

7. Chloasma (a.k.a. melasma - facial pigmentation due to hormonal changes, e.g. during pregnancy, due to
contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy)
Tao Hong Si Wu Wan (Blood stasis with Blood deficiency)
