Mr and Mrs Koos Garden

My parents,Mr and Mrs Koo, are proud of their garden. They have 55 bonsai
trees which are over 25 years old. I love watching them sculpt the bonsai
trees which they patiently do once every fortnight. My father says they need
to do it often so that the trees dont grow out of shape. Sometimes, they
remove the bonsai plants from their pots to trim their roots. This can be
messy affair but they insist it is important so that roots do not rot.

Other than bonsai plants, there are many fruit trees which thrive
under their care. In the centre of the garden is a 40-year-old rambutan tree
which my grandfather planted. Along with the rambutan tree, the ciku,
pomegranate and lemon trees also provide us and our neighbours with
many fruits. Sometimes, I help them cover the fruits with bags to protect
them from the birds and squirrels.

My parents latest project is a vegetable garden. They plan to grow

mint, basil, spring onions and parsley. Sometimes, I think the garden is too
much to maintain but they say its a relaxing pastime and the best stress
reliever. Maybe I will join them so I can ease the stress in my life.

Question 4
Read the email from Wee Yong to Josephine.
Dear Josephine,
Thank you for your lovely birthday card. How are you and your family? As
for me, everyone at home is happy but busy. My uncle, aunty and cousins are
staying with us for a week so it is a flurry of activities every day.
With regards to your emails last week, you mentioned that you would like
to prepare breakfast for your relatives. Yes, I agree that boiling eggs is simple,
but it can be tricky too. It is a good thing that there are some tips that can help
us.
Cooking time is important, depending on what type of eggs you want to
prepare. Boil the eggs for ten minutes if you want them hard-boiled. If you want
them soft-boiled but served without their shell, then boil the eggs for six
minutes. However, if you want to serve the eggs in their shell, then three
minutes is all the time you need.
The next thing you need to know is how to boil them. First, boil some
water. Just before it starts boiling, put the eggs into the pot gently. Then, cook
according to how you want your eggs prepared. After that, removed the eggs
and put them in iced water for five minutes to stop cooking process.
There is another point you need to remember when cooking eggs.
Sometimes, the eggs crack while boiling. To stop this from happening, make sure
that they are at room temperature when you cook them. Take them out of the
refrigerator 15 minutes before cooking. You could also add a tablespoon of
vinegar and/or a teaspoon of salt into the boiling water. This helps seal any
potential cracks.
Finally, you should also use a good-sized pot to prevent the eggs from
rolling too much in water. You should only put one layer of eggs in the pot.
I hope these tips will be helpful. Do tellme what you prepare for them and
send me some pictures of the food you prepare for breakfast. I would love to see
your culinary creations.
Your friend,
