To whom it may concern, Art of Learning Study-skills Courses. Kings College School in Wimbledon incorporates the Art of Learning study-skills course into their examination preparation programme, and it is presented to all their GCSE candidates during the first year of preparation for their GCSE examinations. The pupils explore and work through a number of skills, which they need to be successful at learning. In that process they raise their self-esteem and confidence and they learn the importance of being resilient. With their multi-sensory teaching styles, their New Zealand stories and their wonderful sense of humour, the Art of Learning presenters reach all pupils. They create a day with a difference. The impact is immediate and amazing. A follow up workshop for staff and a separate workshop for parents complement this programme, thus ensuring that all parties in the pupil, parent, teacher partnership are aware of the strategies and the level of support which are required to make learning successful. That is where the strength of this programme lies. It allows for a whole school approach to learning, which is clearly set out, well understood and most importantly easy and fun to use. At KCS, it is felt that the impact of this course stretches well beyond the learning of individual pupils. The Art of Learning techniques are now widely used in classes. They particularly allow for a more consistent approach to differentiation, thus supporting staff in their planning and successful delivery of lessons. The SEN department at KCS also taps into these strategies and observes daily the very significant benefits they create. Parents just love the workshop. They would happily turn the ninety minute session into a day course, if Lance would let them. At the end of the session, they feel so much better equipped to support their child, not just in terms of practical learning strategies, but also in relation to instilling and boosting their childs confidence. The dialogue between parents and school has strengthened as a result too. Without any hesitation, I recommend this course to any educational establishment. Lance King and his team will be returning to KCS in the autumn, to deliver their third course. A number of pupils and parents have already made enquiries to have this confirmed. That says it all.
