Preamble
Packaging Industry in India is one of the fastest growing important
sector driving technology and innovation growth and adding value
to the various manufacturing sectors including Food Processing,
Agriculture, and Automobile, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals and
FMCG segments.
The Indian packaging industry is expected to grow at 18%-20%
per year from its current 13%. At present, Indian Packaging
Industry is valued at US $13 billion and ranks 11th in the world
and expected to grow to US $15.5 billion by 2015.
Along with Packaging Industry, Food Processing Industry is the
fifth largest sector in India. The industry is currently estimated at
US$ 39.7 billion in India and is expected to reach US$ 65.41 billion
by 2020.
Worldwide, the Industry is facing various challenges of meeting
the consumer preferences and driving sales of different products.
The challenges that the industry is facing today are lack of
regulatory clarity in packaging, sustainable packaging and green

packaging materials. The industry has adopted various upgraded


technologies to enhance the shelf life of food products since there
is a lot of demand for ready to cook and ready to eat products are
increasing day by day.
