Lesson aims:
1. to promote discussion;
2. to talk about superstitions they know;
3. to listen to a song for specific information;
4. to practice first conditional with the help of the superstitions;
Skills: listening, speaking, writing
Materials: worksheets, flashcards, a video of the song Superstition by Stevie Wonder
Methods: conversation, song gapfill, 1st conditional practice.

Stages of the lesson


ORGANIZATION
* T greets the Ss and checks if there are any absentees.
* T checks the homework and see if there are any mistakes to correct.(Time-5 min.)
ACTIVITY 1
AIMS: - to create a pleasant atmosphere for the English class
- to get Ss ready for the next stages of the lesson
MATERIALS: a picture with a black cat
METHODS: conversation, speaking.
PROCEDURE
* T shows to the Ss a picture with a black cat and asks them
what do they think about when they see such a cat.
* T elicits the words superstition, superstitious, good
luck, bad luck.
* T tells them that they are going to discuss about superstitions
and writes the lesons title on the bb.
* T also writes on the bb the superstition related to the black
cat.
ACTIVITY 2
AIMS: to pre-teach/ revise vocabulary before listening the song
MATERIALS: flashcards for the specific vocabulary
METHODS: conversation, speaking

PROCEDURE
* T shows the Ss another pictures and this time elicits from the
Ss the superstitions related to those things.
* When T shows the mirror to the Ss, she will tell them that
an old-fashioned word for mirror is looking glass

ACTIVITY 3
AIMS: to listen to a song for specific information;
MATERIALS: laptop, a video of the song Superstition by Stevie Wonder, gapfill sheet
METHODS: gapfill exercise
PROCEDURE
* T plays the verse 1 and the chorus of the song and asks Ss
which words does he mention? (ladder, looking glass and 13)
* T gives a gapfill sheet with the songs lyrics to each pair of
Ss and then plays the whole song once or twice then checks
the missing words and see if they managed to write as many as
possible. (the winners will get a good mark)
* T asks the Ss what Stevie thinks about superstitions. Does he
think is a good/bad thing? Why? Do they believe in sup.? Did
anything good or bad happen to them related to a superstition?

ACTIVITY 4
AIMS: to teach the First Conditional;
MATERIALS: blackboard, coloured chalk
METHODS: conversation, explanation, example
PROCEDURE
* T has already written on the bb a sentence using 1 st
conditional so she asks the Ss what does it express (a
condition);
* T tells them that this is a sentence in 1st conditional, tells
them when we use it and then she asks how the 1 st cond. is
formed (they already know Present Simple and Will Future)

ACTIVITY 5
AIMS: to practice first conditional with the help of the superstitions
MATERIALS: worksheet
METHODS: conversation, writing
PROCEDURE
* T tells the Ss that they are going get a worksheet to practice
what they have learnt.
* Ss will work in pairs and then will check their answers with
the whole class.

* T tells the Ss to do the second exercise from the worksheet as homework answer the questions.
