DESCRIPTION
Someswitcheswereshippedfromthefactorywithunnecessaryfolder/filesloadedontheCompactFLASHcard.Thesefilesreducetheamountof
availablestoragespaceavailableontheswitch.Theavailablestoragespaceisneededbytheswitchtostartupafterasoftwareupdateorreboot.
DETAILS
From2009toMay2010,switchesweremanufacturedwithasoftwareimageontheCompactFLASHcardwhichincludedafoldernamed.trashnebeker
thatcontainedsomescratchfiles.Thesefilesarenotmaliciousinanyway,buttheydooccupyasignificantamountofstoragespace.TheCFisusedto
storeprimaryandsecondarysoftwareimages,configurationfiles,andcorefiles.Overtime,theswitchsoftwareimageshavegrown,creatingthe
possibilitythattheunnecessaryfilesmayleaveinsufficientstoragespacefortheswitchtoproperlybootafterasoftwareupgradeorreboot.Whenthis
conditionisencountered,theswitchwillbootbacktotheprimaryOSwhenreloadedinsteadofthenewimagethatwasjustdownloaded.Insomecases
theswitchwillfailtoboot,allLEDswillremainconstantlylit,andtheconsolesessionwillpresentthebootROMprompt,asshownbelow:

Theresolutionforthisissuevaries,dependingontheswitchstateatthetimeofresolution.
Iftheswitchisupandrunningproperly(evenifitbooteduptoprimarywhenitshouldhavebootedtosecondary),youhaveachoiceofsoftware
managementoptions.Moredetailabouteachoftheseoptionsfollows.
Option1(recommended):Updateandbootintoaswitchsoftwareversionwhichautomaticallyremovestheextraneous
files.Thisoptionisaseasyasasoftwareupdate,butdoesrequireareboot.
Option2:Runashowtechcustomscripttoremovethefiles.Thisoptionislikelybetterforthosecustomersthat
wouldliketoavoidarebootoftheswitch.
Option1:Updatesoftwaretooneoftheversionslistedinthe"DownloadableSolutions"sectionbelow.
Option2:HPhasprovidedascriptthatcanberunbytheswitchadministratorusingtheshowtechcustomcommand.Thisscriptwilldeletethefile(s)
anddirectorylocatedonthecompactflash.Theoperationoftheswitchisnotimpacted.
DownloadtheCompactFlashCleanupfilefromtheappropriatelinkintheDownloadableSolutionssectionbelow.
Extractthefilewhichconsistsofthetrash.nebekershowtechcustomscript,andinstructions.Followthe
instructionsforrunningthescripttoremovetheunneededfiles(ignorethedownloadinstructionsasyouhave

Iftheswitchhasalreadyfailedtorebootorfailedonsoftwareupdate:Youwillbeatthebootpromptasshownin
theexamplebelow.Youmustmanuallydeletesomefilestofreeupenoughspacefortheswitchtobootandthenexecute
eitheroption1or2,outlinedabove.Ifyouareuncomfortablefollowingthisprocedure,pleasecontacttechnical
supportforassistance.
1. Listthecontentofflashwiththecommandlshwcfa0asshownbelow:

failedduetoinsufficientspace.
3. Deletetheboot.inifile:

Deletingtheboot.inifilewillresultinanewboot.inibeingcreatedwhenduringthenextstep.
4. BootintoprimaryimagefileusingthebootROMcommandjp1thenproceedrunningtheshowtechcustomscript
asdescribedabove.
