Dear Friends In Christ,

The Bakery truck didn't come today so Jim decided to make some muffins for

the boys' breakfast.

I wish you could see the kitchen!

Every bowl and uten

sil is out and flour is everywhere. But I must admit there is a nice aroma
floating into the office at this midnight hour.

We have some exciting news this month - oh there is so much to tell in this
one little letter. First of all let me say that we know there has been much

adverse news in the U.S. about Jamaica. Much of it is exaggerated, some true
However, at this moment, although we have had some tense times, we are not
going to panic and leave. We are definitely putting double efforts into
strengthening the church.

And this is our news.

The little village of James Mt, just at the foot of our Sun Mt Camp hill,
has long been in need of a church. Mow at last we have found a piece of
land that we can buy for $^000.00. The people are about to build a much
needed school for themselves, having had a piece of land donated for the

purpose._ They have asked us to help them.

V/e jumped at the chance to do

this believing that If we assist them in having a school we will gain their

goodwill and should find establishing a church there much easier.

So off to work we went. So far we have gotten the promise of sand and gravel
paint, and transportation. And best of all, tentatively a gift from U.S.

A.I. D. We were really excited when we came out of the Embassy today.

saw all chairs filled.

In the meantime, Jim has doubled efforts at Meadovybrook and last Sunday we

We have baptized three adults so far this year. The

Sunday School has increased 20% and one new class was added.

One of our men

whom we have been teaching for two years now is ready to take the ministry

at James Mt with our guidance. The church at Broadleaf Is growing tremen

dously under 5ro Williams whom Jim ordained-about a year ago, for the mln~
Istry there.

Isn't that great!

We have a little problem here at Home. Each house in Kingston provides Its
own sewage by digging a pit. The water drains down into the earth. But they

fill up after some ten years. And it's trouble when they fill. Like right

now In our yard! Well, we had it hauled away by tanker and the pit washed
and cleaned. But the bill will be about $300.00 added to an already strained
budget.

Gasoline is now $2.20 per gallon.

Ue got our financial report last night. Thank you so very much for your
loving support for January. It's so encouraging. We sorely miss going to
the P.O. to get your letters one by one but it is much safer this way.
Please help us with our new challenge at James Mt. Pray with us that every

Dear Christian FriendSj
"Suffer the little ones...."

Jim hauled out the faded white crib from the storeroom,
painted It, and Mommy laid down our little Christopher
who is four months old.

The little ones just love their

sweet new little brother, fiow thankful we are that you

have helped us to give him a hcme, a soft clean bed and

love. Thank you ever so much for sharing your means

with the little ones of this island.

At Sun hiountain we have made an excellent start on the

Girls' Dorm which If we complete before summer will enable
us to open full scale camps. We are trying hard.

The James i'iountaln church effort has begun. Bro Elliott

of Meadowbrook is taking the work at James Mt and he had

22 for Sunday School the first week with a large crowd out
for night service. We asked the Lord with one accord at
Cottage Prayer Meeting tonight for land for the church.
We believe He will provide and we are thrilled with the
prospects there.

The church at brownstown, Indiana has again asked Carol to

come for their VbS and she plans to go. She hopes to vis-

It a few places on the way and hopes to drive. Does any

one have a car to lend? Or to give to bring back with us?

So many times our Jamaican friends remind us of the Script

ure, "Ask and it shall be given you". So there it Is. V#e

need a car. VJould you like us to visit you? Please let
us know immediately. Our visit should be from May I7th to
June 17th.

'

Our last visit to the States was in 1575 for three weeks

so we are eager to fellowship again. Jim will only be able

to spend part of the time there as the pressures of Home

and the ministry are severe.

Please keep our needs in your prayers:

1. Support for Christopher

It was March in Jamaica In )977

at Jamaica Christian Boys' Home

Dear Friends In Christ,

March has been a very interesting month - Its highlights varying

from last Sunday's baptism at Meadowbrook to James Mt Sunday School

now averaging 60, and on to a lovely surprise and treat.

Pete 6 Eileen Ramsey of Mt City, Tenn. and Hugh & Mildred Thomas of
Lake, Miss, both wrote and Invited us to meet them In Haiti for the
Revival Fires meeting there. We wrote and totd them we Just could
not make It.

But we had second thoughts. We considered the fact that we had not
taken a day off from our work for a whole year. And we found that
the trip was only kS minutes from Kingston. So we dashed down the
last minute, got tickets and left Monday afternoon, returning Thurs**
day. It was good fellowship and also good to learn about that won
derful but terribly needy country, Haiti. We never stopped a moment
to rest - there was just too much to see and learn and we enjoyed
every minute of it returning refreshed and thankful for such a love
ly experience. And we also thank our friends for making the trip
possible.

Foundations are now completed for the Girls' Dorm at Sun Mt. Oh, it
was a big tough job but we are thankful It Is past. How the excite
ment of seeing the walls go up Is just ahead.
Grandma Walker is ?^0 this month.

You would never know It If you

could see her managing the kitchen, pouring over homework with the
boys, doing the weekly grocery shopping and teaching the Adult Class
at Meadowbrook.

We thank God for her and for health and strength.

She has given years of voluntary missionary service.

God bless herl

Thank you for your gift again this month. Surely you will reap a
great blessing one day for your goodness to these precious little
boys...and the work of God's Kingdom. Please keep our needs In your
prayers as we remember you, too. We appreciate the gifts toward our
travel fund in May.

Please continue to send your gifts to the Wheelers as it has become

more and more unsafe to send money to Jamaica. We draw our checks
against the Orlando fund regularly. Thanks again, and God bless you
In every good thing.

very difficult to leave for even a short period. OUr needs are urgent. So far, we have

that the boys will have ample funds for their care. Jim will not go with us all the way but
we must still provide for the whole month of May before we can leave. Please remember this

May - June 1977

Dear Faiiily - our beautiful family of friends.

Oh, there was joy unspeakable in my heart as the plane wheels rolled to a stop at our
airstrip in Jamaica! God had granted us a safe and wonderful trip and
prayed and
sang our prayer of thanksgiving. Jim met me at the Customs gate and kissed me three
times before we reached the car...he looked really qlad to have me back. So our re
joicing was mutual.

HO^ to begin to say thank you is our big problem. On the wharf is a new Ford pick-up
truck provided by all of you who helped so wonderfully with our expenses. We still have
to raise funds to pay the duty on it, so please pray with us over this. And we all join
in saying thanks for the truck as it has k wheel drive for those heavy trips to Sun Mt
and should give us a big lift In the work.

THANK YOU ...for the love and interest shown us all along the way...for the showers of

food Items (nearly 100 pounds of peanut butter!) for the warm hospitality, meals, fun
trips to Disney, Sea World, etc,..for receptions and dinners in our honor, for new shoes
and clothes for all the family...a roto-tlller for the Sun Mt farm...a new typewritter,
for slipping away with our car to fill it with gasolIne...for many other gifts. And last
but not least for so patiently listening to our story of God's wonderful answer to prayer
in this work. May the Lord bless you for each and every gift of love.
flow! But our only regret is that we could not have seen all of you.

AT HOME Jim and Grandma had a busy time with an epidemic of Dengue Fever that visited ou;

Dorm as well as most of Kingston.

Grandma was up many nights rubbing down high fevers.

She took a turn at being ill too, but the family as a whole are on the mend.

THL NEW BALL FIELD at Sun Mt Is ccmplete.

This Is one of the most outstanding answers to

prayer that we have had yet...we literally "moved mountains" and the result Is as near a

miracle as one could get.

Then, the girls' dormitory Is almost complete.

JULY promises excitement. A working group of some 28 people plan to come from Brownstown
Indiana where Elvin and BEtty Gray minister. They plan to paint our new buildings and
build a fireplace on Embassy Hall. Isn't that exciting?
A GRAi'jP OPEi'jING Is planned for Sun Mt Christian Camp.. .enrolment is growing and some
excellent help pledged their volunteer services both from the U.S. and from Jamaica.

We are thankful for these blessings - let us pray now th^t our camp efforts will bear
rich fruit.

YOUR PRAYERS for health, Spiritual filling, protect ion and funds are needed.

Surely God

you have done to make these six weeks so beautiful arad bountiful.

Dear Friends,

What an exciting month!

Sun Mountain "Grand Opening" was just ahead.

July 25th to be exact.

(f
And there

was far too much work to be done. So Brownstown Christian Church in Indiana,

(Elvin and Betty Gray the coordinators) came to the rescue. Yes, Zk strong, in
cluding two Floridians. Oh how they worked...mixing cement, painting, decorating
the walls and building a lovely fireplace In Embassy Hall. They started on Tues

day at day break and by Saturday the job was over.

That was the crowning day. The Jamaica Defence Force sent out the 1st Batalllon
Band in brilliant red coats with gold trim. Yes, 26 musicians and their music

was magnificent. And there were prominent speakers and a huge anniversary cake
for twenty wonderful years of camping with the Jamaica Christian Boys' Home.

Looking back to our trip to the U.S. brings to mind some of the wonderful answers

to prayer. A beautiful new stove, gift from 1st Christian Church In Largo en
hances our camp kitchen; the boys of our Home are In shining new "armour"..from
new shoes to pants and shirts- a head to foot outfit, all from the VBS at Englewood church In Jacksonville, Fla., and our new truck that Bob Shannon from Largo
Fla. steered our way.

Importers of vehicles to Jamaica must have licenses before shIppIng..11 censes that

are almost impossible to obtain and if possible, take at least four months. But

when God's children have a need He helps. We shippci our new Ford truck to arrive
on July kth. On July 6th we went to apply for a license. In less than two minutes
we left the office with our license. We had no appointment to see the Administrator
and we had never met him or known him. Praise the Lord! He is able to do the im
possible. , .to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.

You see, the Lord knew we needed it...and urgently. We want to thank each and every

one of you who had a part In making up this gift. We are certainly grateful.

The duty on the truck has not been paid since we were able to get a bank guarantee
until the government makes a decision on whether or not to allow us a duty-free

status. We are praying that they will see our need and release us. So pray with us,

Grandma Walker is feeling better, the boys are fine, and we have a darling new boy
In our Home.

He Is Billy, aged 18 months. Your gifts of love are a continual

blessing and this month enabled us to take Billy. Thank you ever so much.

Dear Christian Friends,

Well, we will start with the tough news first
this month. Last month we told you that we

It was a mountaintop experience not only for the campers but for all the workers.

Dear Friends in Christ Jesus,

Christinas is a family time. Yes, in the church family and in the

home. And in our family it is a tine for love and a closeness
that is truly inspired by the Lord Jesus. U'e are so full of joys
and sadness all mixed up together. Grandma will not be with us
this year as she is in the U.S. and that makes us sad. Dut then,
we are glad because God has blessed us with Sister Shirley, our
new co-v/orker who has finished her excellent term's work at Cen

Uony plans to be with us too, for the holidays since he did not
get home during the summer.

Christmas in our ilome sees its usual excitement of boys learning

Christmas songs for their Candlelight service, locked cupboards

with secret packages and a usual air of excitement. Nursie loves
it all. She has begun her fourth year wit!i the Home and the boys
love her dearly.

Christmas also brings ijratitude and deep thanksgiving for the

Dear Friends in the Homeland,

Christmas was yesterday. The tree lights are still burning and little voices
are still shrill and happy and we are basking in the blessing of the Lord,

thanking Him for 27 Christmas-Joy_Times in Jamaica.

Your loving friendship has

always been a real part of our Christmas happiness.

And speaking of God's blessing, we have one more to add to the years of our ser
vice for the Lord. This one offers another great challenge in our lives. The
President of Haiti has made a personal invitation to us to -'come over to Haiti
and help.'' With it he has agreed to give us a large piece of land for farming
and for the establishment of a school, medical clinic and orphanage. We have
prayed seriously about this for many months and have now decided to lend our
hands and hearts in that direction.
The work will be established under the name "CMRISTl.'V'iVILLE'' and is to be a sister

work to the Ja^naica Christian Boys' ilome Ltd. We visited Haiti in March of this
year and again in November to prayerfully consider this move. But while establish
ing the new work we hope to keep a close loving watch on the Jamaica Home. We
will, the Lord willing, return to Jamaica periodically to reenforce the support

lines in Jamaica.

Our Directors are dedicated and willing to carry the load and

care for the six young children who remain with the Home and with Nursie Peterson
whom they have come to love for over three years now.

Praise the Lord!

No doubt there will be many questions in your minds concerning the Home and the
work in Haiti. Please watch for the new
which we hope will be off the
press in a short time. This will include news of both works and ivill also announce

the addition of our new co-worker, Shirle;^ Peace.

Our deepest thanks go to the Lord first whom we love and serve for His watchcare
over us throughout these ?'iany years, for the enfolding of His loving arms and com

forting wings about us - oJi, ]ow we praise Him!

And then to you who have been a

pillar of strength in making this work possible. We will need you more than ever
before__as we face new frontiers - need your prayers and love in a very special way.

Please write us and assure us of your continued care...we are comforted in the
knowledge of your faith in us throughout the years and we believe that once again
you will stand beside us.
