Budget Guide to the Chance-to-Cast Barbarian

WARNING: RESULTS MAY VARY

The idea for this build spawned while I tossed the idea around to make one budget build for each class
in the game. However, I ran into a problem. How do you make a budget build for the most gear
dependent class in the game?
After spending countless hours racking my brain (and nearly giving up) I came up with an idea.
A stupid idea.
No, a ridiculous idea.
One I had no faith would work...
Or would it?
Even with all my doubts, I had to try. And then something incredible happened...

It worked.
It wasn't perfect, it wasnt the fastest, and it wasnt pretty but damnit, it works!
And it only costs around a PUL rune.

So youre probably wondering What the hell is a Chance-to-Cast Barbarian?

The Chance-to-Cast (CtC) Barbarian is a type of frenzy barbarian that wears items with a lot of Chanceto-Cast skills on them.
This build uses a total of 7 different Chance-to-Cast abilities and one paladin aura to destroy high
council members in the hell travincal in search of items and high runes.
Disclaimer: This build is not as fast, or as viable as most cookie cutter builds are, but it does achieve a
barbarian capable of defeating one of the hardest areas of the game in hell mode for most classes.
And it delivers death in style. Who doesnt want to see frozen orbs, ice blasts, tornadoes, and poison
novas flying around their screen constantly? Its like watching a goddamn fireworks display!

Now lets get down to the nitty-gritty:

Part 1 Stats:
Strength: 115. You only need enough points to wear your gear. With Guillaumes Face that means 115.
Dexterity:136. Youre using phase blades, so you need at least 136 to wield them.
Vitality:All the rest. The more life, the longer you live. End of story.
Energy:If you put points in energy, you should just delete your account.

Part 2 Skills:
Frenzy: 20 Your main attack.Use this over double swing because with frenzy you are uninterruptable.
Sword Mastery:20 This adds AR, Damage, and Critical Strike.
Battle Orders:20Self explanatory.
Natural Resistance: 5+ Try to get enough for max resistances here. You will need more points invested
in this while you are in the budget gear. Eventually you can respect into less points here when you have
some resistance charms, and maybe an anni if youre lucky.
And one point in each of the following: Increased Stamina, Increased Speed, Iron Skin, Howl, Taunt,
Shout,Battle Cry, War Cry, Battle Orders, Battle Command, Bash, Double Swing, Double Throw, Leap,
and Leap Attack.
15 points total.
At about level 75-80 you should have near maxed resistances (excepting cold resistance) from your
natural resistance, and 85 fire resistance if using infernostrides. The more important resistances for a
barbarian in travincal are fire, and to a lesser extent lightning. Shoot to use some charms in your
inventory to make up any resists that you are lacking. Also you should end up with around 2000+ life
after Battle orders is applied.

Part 3 Items:
Since this build focuses on chance to cast skills and not too much physical damage, it is cheaper and
better to get the +%enhanced damage to demons and Chance-to-Cast Xspell modifier on your gear
whenever possible for killing the travincal.
The Budget Setup
Helmet:

With all of these wonderful mods, G-face has been highly regarded as one of the best melee helmets in
the game. And its cheap to boot. Socket this with an ort rune to get some extra light resistance.
Armor:

+50 all res and 20 faster hit recovery for only a Nef+Lum rune. Whats not to like?
Gloves:

The main focus here is the 20% increased attack speed, 350%enhanced damage to demons, and 50% fire
resistance. The CTC holy bolt doesnt do much, but it does look cool!

Now for the most expensive pieces of the build.

Weapon 1: Lawbringer Phase Blade

One of the main chance to cast spells, Decrepify, slows enemies and makes them take 50% more
physical damage. Sanctuary aura knocks back undead and makes them weaker. Plus it makes your
screen all sparkly!
-50% target defense makes our enemies easier to hit, and adding cold and fire damage aids in killing
physical immunes.
The life leech and gold find are a bonus too!
Weapon 2: Voice of Reason Phase Blade

Our other main CTC spells include a the frozen orb and ice blast spells, that are paired with a -24%
enemy cold resistance. This allows us to blast down enemies with cold damage.
The other extremely important modifier is the enhanced damage to demons mod. This is huge against
travincal, especially when paired with our gloves.

Boots:

These are primarily used for their increased max fire resistance to protect your barbarian from the
hydras. The CTC blaze also looks badass when it procs. Plus, gold find is always welcome.
Belt:

10-15% physical damage reduction is amazing. Also this is your main source of life leech. Feel free to
throw on aSnowclash when playing in normal to add a chance to cast blizzard for extra fun.
Amulet and Ring1:
Angelic set Amulet + Ring is the only choice here. Huge AR boost and 20% damage taken goes to mana.
Ring2:

The chance to cast poison nova and twister are key here. Also the extra life leech makes you way more
survivable. The poison resist tops you off and the 10% more damage taken goes to mana helps too.

Part 4 Possible Upgrades/Alternate Choices:

So once you have a lot of currency for upgrades for this barbarian, the build becomes a bit obsolete.
However, there are a few items worth mentioning that would fit well into this build that dont cost an
arm and a leg and could provide a substantial speed increase to your build. I will provide some
alternates as well for certain slots if you cant find all the gear listed in the budget section.
Oath Balrog Blade

This is probably the single biggest upgrade to the build that you can get for a reasonable price.
Personally I would replace the Lawbringer for this because it will allow you to hork items from the
Travincal since you wont have a slain monsters rest in peace modifier any more. Also this has some
extra damage to demons, is extremely fast, and has another chance to cast in level 20 bone spirit.
Treachery Armor

Treachery was my first idea to use on this barb at its inception. The chance to cast level 15 fade, and
level 15 venom is amazing. Use this armor as soon as you have enough stacked resists charms to not
need the smoke runeword anymore. I thought I could get away with just letting the fade go off, but
with how short the travincal runs are it doesnt always go off before you get in danger of dying.

Boots:

These are awesome boots for any melee character. Good mods on here are self explanatory.

These boots can be subbed in, especially when you cant get your hands on a G-face helmet. This also
pairs pretty well with a rockstopper helmet.

Tearhaunch are pretty awesome with 10 all resistances and 5 to each strength and dexterity. Also they
are extremely cheap.

Also, a pair of good dual or tri resist boots could be a godsend to this build. Especially ones paired with
a chance to cast nova or charged bolt or frost nova when struck. Definitely ID all the rare pairs you find.

Helmets:

Tons of resists, physical damage reduction and life. Whats not to like? If you decide to use this make
sure you pair it with some boots that have crushing blow so you dont lose that mod.

Azurewrath Phase Blade:

This is a great replacement for Lawbringer. It has more speed, magic and cold damage (for immunes)
pure ED% and still has a sanctuary aura. It doesnt have a chance to cast mod, but it still is awesome.

I would go further into breakpoints and other specifics about barbarians, but other frenzy barb guides
have that stuff covered very well. This is just a set of gear that works for me and is extremely cheap.
