VBS Day 1.

Prophesy and Tongues:

Tonight please erase everything you have heard and know about the concepts that you have
traditional heard and look at these scriptures again as if it is your first time. Then pray and go back
and study it again and see for yourself if you will come to a dierent conclusion.
The problem we have for years if that we have quit reaching for the scriptures and ask the Holy Spirit
to lead and guide us into all the truth (John 16:13)
This is why I think it is important for believer to come to church with their own Bibles or Bible
applications on your smart phones or Tablets and see for yourself what is being shared.
The Dark Ages is a historical periodization used originally for the Middle Ages, which emphasizes the
spiritual, cultural and economic deterioration that supposedly occurred in Western Europe following
the decline of the Roman Empire.[1][2] The label employs traditional light-versus-darkness imagery to
contrast the "darkness" of the period with earlier and later periods of "light".[3] The period is
characterized by a relative scarcity of religious, historical and other written records at least for some
areas of Europe, rendering it obscure to christians and historians. The term "Dark Age" derives from
the Latin saeculum obscurum, originally applied by Caesar Baronius in 1602 to a tumultuous period in
the 10th and 11th centuries.[4]
The term once characterized the bulk of the Middle Ages, or roughly the 6th to 13th centuries, as a
period of spiritual and intellectual darkness between extinguishing the "light of Rome" after the end of
Late Antiquity, and the rise of the Italian Renaissance. In the dark ages for more than 700 years, the
Bible was removed and hidden from the church and consequently we have seen what it had done to
the church.
Majority of Christians are not able to stand on the scripture that they say they believe when witnessing
to anyone. Therefore we cannot make any mark in anyones life till we go back to the basics and grab
this Bible and study it.Joshua 1:8 says This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but
thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is
written therein:for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success
(Joshua 1:8 KJV) Then can we even begin to think of witnessing to others. You cannot share what you
do not know.
(Hosea 4:6 KJV)
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: (Cut o, robbed) because thou hast rejected
knowledge,
I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy
God, (Thy God) The Bible is the Law of thy God. Who is Thy God. I will also forget thy children
(Hosea 4:6 AMP)
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you [the priestly nation] have rejected
knowledge, I will also reject you that you shall be no priest to Me; seeing you have forgotten the law of
your God, I will also forget your children
(Hosea 4:6 ESV)
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;because you have rejected knowledge,I reject you
from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your
children

(Nehemiah 8:5-10 KJV)

5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when
he opened it, all the people stood up:
6 And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up
their hands:and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
7 Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita,
Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law:and the
people stood in their place.
8 So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to
understand the reading.
9 And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the
people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the Lord your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all
the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.
10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto
them for whom nothing is prepared:for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy
of the Lord is your strength
(Nehemiah 8:5-10 AMP)
4 Ezra the scribe stood on a wooden pulpit which they had made for the purpose. And beside him
stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah on his right hand; and on his left hand,
Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbaddana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
5 Ezra opened the book in sight of all the people, for he was standing above them; and when he
opened it, all the people stood up.
6 And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, lifting up their
hands; and they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with faces to the ground.
7 Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah,
Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiahthe Leviteshelped the people to understand the Law, and the people
[remained] in their place.
8 So they read from the Book of the Law of God distinctly, faithfully amplifying and giving the
sense so that [the people] understood the reading.
9 And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught
the people said to all of them, This day is holy to the Lord your God; mourn not nor weep. For all the
people wept when they heard the words of the Law.
10 Then [Ezra] told them, Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet drink, and send portions to him for
whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. And be not grieved and depressed, for
the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold

(Mark 16:1-20 KJV)

1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had
bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of
the sun.
3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away:for it was very great.
5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long
white garment; and they were arighted.
6 And he saith unto them, Be not arighted:Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified:he is
risen; he is not here:behold the place where they laid him.
7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee:there shall ye see
him, as he said unto you.
8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed:neither
said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.
9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out
of whom he had cast seven devils.
10 And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.
12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the
country.
13 And they went and told it unto the residue:neither believed they them.
14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief
and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall
speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay
hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right
hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the
word with signs following. Amen

Jesus had a simple ministry. He prayed and he healed people. He healed the broken hearted
(Ps 147:3; Luke 4:14-21).
14And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee:and there went out a fame of him through
all the region round about.

all the region round about.

15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up:and, as his custom was, he went into the
synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the
book, he found the place where it was written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor;
he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of
sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all
them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
Ministry is supposed to be simple. Why? because Jesus said My father he doeth the work
(John14:10). Jesus said I say what I hear my father say and and I do what I see my father do
(John 12:49). See we think we should be the one doing the work. It is not supposed to be so.
He did not go around trying to convert the Pharisees and Saduccess because he understood
their mind are already made up. He was never looking for them rather they were the ones
looking for him to argue with him. Remember the rich young ruler. Why did Jesus not help him.
it was not because he was rich. Why ? The apostle Paul explained this is 1 Timothy 6:17. (17 As
for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the
uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do
good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for
themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life(1
Timothy 6:17-19 ESV)

This is the reason why Jesus had a very simple ministry. He did not go about forcing himself or
his doctrines on folks. Quit forcing people to believe. People do not believe due to lack of
knowledge. My people meaning
Christians are destroyed or cut o due to lack of knowledge. When knowledge goes forth, then
comes understanding and with that belief.
The whole fight about tongues has been made simple by Jesus. It will follow those that
believe. It will not follow all Christians so we should quit make folks do everything.
Those who "believe" and those who "believe not" are all correct. Those who believe receive
and those who believe not receive not.
These signs or manifestations shall accompany them that believeth. Why did He say it like
that?. Why did he not say these signs shall accompany Christians "my people" or you"
meaning the disciples or apostles.
Because manifestations accompany whosoever believeth. If you believe you are healed you will
be. What so ever you believe you receive.
Let us look at the word believe. To believe is to take, to capture, to lay hold of, to receive
(Mark 16:1-20 ESV)
1 When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought
spices, so that they might go and anoint him.
2 And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb.
3 And they were saying to one another, Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the
tomb?

tomb?
4 And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back it was very large.
5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and
they were alarmed.
6 And he said to them, Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has
risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.
7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just
as he told you.
8 And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and
they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. [Some of the earliest manuscripts do not include
16:920.]
9 [[Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from
whom he had cast out seven demons.
10 She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
11 But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.
12 After these things he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the
country.
13 And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them.
14 Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked
them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after
he had risen.
15 And he said to them, Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will
speak in new tongues;
18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt
them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.
19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at
the right hand of God.
20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the
message by accompanying signs

VBS Day 2

As I said earlier this is for those who believe. My hope is that understanding will occur by this
new illumination and then many will believe. But I do know that not all will. Jesus Christ who is

new illumination and then many will believe. But I do know that not all will. Jesus Christ who is
our example just our Father (God) never forced anything on anyone of us. Why? Because we are
free moral agents. Think about bout your own children. Would you feel good knowing that they
are going thing because you said so or because they want to. It is better when we want to not
when we have to. That is why socialism any other type ism He spoke the word and let the
word do the work. Hopefully as in the days of Nehemiah understand will occur and people will
see for themselves their need for this gift of the Holy Spirit.
To recap, Jesus said these signs or manifestations shall follow the ones that believe. Not the
decides only, not the apostles only, not the early Christians only or even the Christians of any
dispensation or century. Simply it will follow anyone that believe. This is simply for whosoever
believeth.
Just as it for whosoever that believeth shall be saved, it follows that whosoever that believeth
shall speak with new tongues.
(1 Corinthians 14:1-40 KJV)
1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God:for no man
understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied:for greater is he that
prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive
edifying.
6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak
to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
7 And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the
sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known
what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without
signification.
11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and
he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of
the church.
13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also:I will sing with
the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned
say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might
teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
20 Brethren, be not children in understanding:howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding
be men.
21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and
yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not:but
prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and
there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of
all, he is judged of all:25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on
his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine,
hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by
course; and let one interpret.
28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and
to God.
29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
34 Let your women keep silence in the churches:for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they
are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home:for it is a shame for women to
speak in the church.
36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I
write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. 40 Let all things be
done decently and in order.
Prophecy and Tongues
1 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.
2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he
utters mysteries in the Spirit.
3 On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and
encouragement and consolation.
4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the
church.
5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is
greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be
built up.
6 Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some
revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching?
7 If even lifeless instruments, such as the flute or the harp, do not give distinct notes, how will anyone
know what is played?
8 And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle?
9 So with yourselves, if with your tongue you utter speech that is not intelligible, how will anyone
know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air.
10 There are doubtless many dierent languages in the world, and none is without meaning,
11 but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the
speaker a foreigner to me.
12 So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building
up the church.
13 Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret.
14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful.
15 What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with
my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also.
16 Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say
Amen to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying?

Amen to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying?
17 For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up. 18 I thank
God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.
19 Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others,
than ten thousand words in a tongue.
20 Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature. 21 In
the Law it is written, By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this
people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.
22 Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for
unbelievers but for believers.
23 If, therefore, the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and outsiders or
unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are out of your minds?
24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to
account by all, 25 the secrets of his heart are disclosed, and so, falling on his face, he will worship
God and declare that God is really among you.
(1 Corinthians 14:1-25 ESV)
1 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.
2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he
utters mysteries in the Spirit. (Tongue and prophecy is not an either or situation but a compare
and contrast situation.
Lookout for words such as "and, but)
3 On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and
encouragement and consolation.
4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the
church. (How can you build the Church up unless or until you yourself are built up. I cannot
build you up until I am built up myself)
5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is
greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be

going to happen. Nothing in life is 100% except God)
6 Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some
revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching? (Prophesying connects with revelation while
teaching connects with knowledge)
7 If even lifeless instruments, such as the flute or the harp, do not give distinct notes, how will anyone
know what is played?) (The Apostle is about to give an illustration because sometimes you have
to illustrate your point to a make it clearer? That is why Jesus used parables. Oftentimes that
is what people remember.)
8 And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle?
9 So with yourselves, if with your tongue you utter speech that is not intelligible, how will anyone

18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. (The Apostle is asserting his expertise
and authority in this area)
19 Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others,
than ten thousand words in a tongue.(How be it in the Church. He is speaking in the context of the
church. What about in your personal context. All our spiritual life in not only in the context of the
church. If you do not build yourself up, I guarantee you cannot build the Church up. There are
too many people trying to help the church but aren't able to help themselves)
20 Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature (Do
you know that in the Church the reverse is the case. We are children in the spiritual matters but
fully grown in malice)
21 In the Law it is written, By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to
