1. Explain in detail about (14/12) GHz earth station function with neat block dia-
gram. [16]

2. (a) Explain in detail about tracking subsystem with neat block diagram. [8]
(b) What is doppler effect? Explain how is it useful for tracking. [8]

3. (a) Prove that the smallest value that the inclination angle can have is equal to
the latitude of the launch site in the plane of the orbit. [8]
(b) A satellite is in a circular equatorial orbit at an altitude of 10000 km from
earth’s surface. Determine the maximum eclipse time in a day during the full
eclipse period. [8]

4. Mention some important milestones in the development of satellite communication


and describe its growth. [16]

5. (a) Consider an FDM-FM-FDMA carrier with the following parameters


Channel bandwidth = 3100 Hz
Multichannel peak factor = 10 dB
Psophometric weighting factor = 2.5 dB
Emphasis weighting factor = 4 dB
Signal to Noise ratio = 51 dB
Find the carrier bandwidth when the carrier to noise ratio is C/N = 15 dB
and the number of channels per carrier is 192. [8]
(b) In FDM-FM-FDMA system, n = 24 channels, fM = 108 kHz, S/N = 51 dB,
and C/N = 12.5 dB. The combined Psophometric noise weighting factor and
preemphasis improvement factor is 6.5 dB. Find the rms frequency deviation
of the test tone. [8]

6. (a) Explain in detail about why transmitting power of earth station is high and
receiving antenna of earth station is high in structure. Analyze [8]
(b) Describe the various effects due to interference of signal at earth station. [8]

7. (a) Define Noise temperature. How it is used to calculate noise power and derive
