JABATAN BAHASA DAN KESUSASTERAAN INGGERIS

SEMESTER 1, SESI 2015/2016
BIU2022 ENGLISH PROFICIENCY 2

Writing Assignment (20%)

The use of social media such as Facebook and Twitter for educational purposes has been
welcomed and encouraged by the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Mohd Khaled
Nordin (New Straits Times, 2012). This resulted from the current trend that could be found
among students nowadays who respond faster to Facebook threads compared to official
portals in universities. According to Thompson (2007), social proprioception provides a sense
of connectedness and awareness to others without direct communication although the
communities are not within sight. From a student's perspective, what do you think about the
use of social media as a learning platform in tertiary level education? Write your elabouration
in an essay. Your essay should not exceed 1000 words. The writing format is as follows:
Format:
Font: Times New Roman
Size: 12
Line spacing: Double
You must submit your assignment by Week 12 (please specifiy the due date for your group).
Late submission will be penalised by a discounting of 25%. Students who would like to
submit their assignment late must send an email to the lecturer with a strong justification and
valid evidence.
