Final exam: The final exam will be comprehensive.
Course objective
To provide students with the fundamental knowledge and understandings of advanced
engineering mathematics and help students deal with engineering problems in mathematical
ways.
Textbook
"Advanced Engineering Mathematics" (7th Edition), by Peter V. O'Neil.
Publisher: Thomson Learning. Date: July 2007, ISBN: 0534552080.
Make-up policy
There will be no make-up exams except some very special cases (doctor and Department Chairs
proofs should be provided).

First-order Differential Equation
Second-order Differential Equation
The Laplace Transform
System of Differential Equations
Vectors and Vector Spaces
Matrices and Systems of Linear Equations
Determinants
Eigenvalues, Diagonalization, and Special Matrices
Regressions (optional)
Partial Differential Equations (optional)

Grading Policy
Class participation: 10%
Exam: 90% (middle exam, 40%; Final, 50%)
MEASURED OUTCOMES:
(a) Ability to apply knowledge of math, engineering and science in advanced modeling
problems.
Evaluated through Homework and Exam problems
(e) An ability to identify, formulate, and solve advanced engineering problems
Students will learn to deal with engineering problems in mathematical ways through class
examples , class exercises, and exam problems.
(k) Ability to use techniques, skills, and tools in advanced engineering practice
Capable of solving differential equations and system linear equations through Matlab
Disabilities
Individuals who have any disability, either permanent or temporary, which might affect their
ability to perform in this class, are encouraged to inform the instructor timely. Adaptation of
methods, materials, or testing may be made as required to provide for equitable participation.
Notes
1. Homework and the solutions will be uploaded to Blackboard system.
2. All exams will be open lecture notes and open homework solutions. The only electronic
device that will be allowed for exams are calculators that do not have the capability to
communicate with other devices. The grading of exams will be based on the detailed
steps of solutions, not just answers.
3. Students should keep academic honesty for sure.
