INTRODUCTION OF B-SCHOOLS
Over the last few years, there has been a phenomenal increase in the
number of B-Schools across the country. There are the more than
1100 management institutes in India offering variety of Post Graduate
& Doctoral Programs in management. Many institutes also offer
Executive MBA programmes for working professionals.
We have categorized the Top B-Schools into five grades- Crème, A+,
A, B+ & B. Categories have been assigned based on the statistics on
placements (foreign and domestic), salaries (highest, lowest and
average) & the number of students placed. The rest of institutes are
placed in the “Other Institutes” category.
1. National Test
These are the National level Entrance Tests whose scores are
accepted by the institutes allied to them. Thus by taking one
such test, you can apply to several B-Schools. CAT, XAT,
JMET, ATMA and MAT fall in this category.
2. Regional Test
These tests are for admission to institutes within a particular
state. For example, the Common Entrance Test(CET) & Gujarat
Common Test (GCET) is for admission into B-schools of
Maharashtra, and Gujarat respectively and so on. (These test are
conducted by the state government)
3. Institute Specific Test
Generally when we think about MBA degree and its presentation the
thought that comes into our mind quite often is of B-School. (A
Business schools is known as a B-School)
One of the most difficult tasks an MBA aspirant faces is the selection
of institutes which he should apply to. The options are many and the
task seems Herculean
CAT, like several others must have told you, is one of the most
competitive exams. Also, it is the most unpredictable of all these tests.
Formula work and rote learning don’t help to a greater extent when
you are dealing with something like CAT. This makes the test
preparation interesting. CAT challenges your aptitude. And, there is
no better motivation than a challenge.
If there is something typically CAT-like, it is only ever changing test
structure. Consequently, you need to go beyond the mere
understanding of concepts and be well versed with the application of
the concepts as well. CAT questions are like the real life scenarios
where you required to interlink two seemingly unrelated concepts and
crack the problem.
