42-93 Rear Drive Axle Remove & Install

The document provides instructions for removing and installing the rear drive axle on an Audi vehicle. Key steps include removing the wheel, collar bolt, and bolts connecting the drive axle to the rear final drive. When removing the drive axle, it must be lowered from the wheel bearing housing. Proper tightening torque values are listed for all fasteners. The process is similar for both left and right side axles. Servicing of the constant velocity joints is also described, including greasing amounts and installation positions of parts. Cautions are provided regarding vehicle position during work and bonded rubber bushings.

Venting CV joint boot

Attaching the CV joint boot onto the outer body of the joint frequently
requires compressing or squeezing the boot. This produces a vacuum in
the joint boot, which may cause a crease to the inside when driving
(arrow).
For this reason, after installing the joint boot, vent it briefly by letting some
air in at the small diameter to balance the pressure and restore the correct
boot shape.
