Description
IKO Undertile Felt is a traditional bituminous underslating for use under tiles or slates, on open rafter or fully supported
pitched roof applications.
IKO Undertile Felt has a felt fibre base combined with a layer of open weave hessian, saturated and coated with bitumen,
and surfaced with sand.

Application
IKO Undertile Felt should be installed in accordance with the recommendations of BS 5534: 2003, Code of practice for
slating and tiling. IKO Undertile Felt should be fixed horizontally along the slope. It is recommended that IKO Eaves
Protection Strip is installed as the first sheet along the eaves, so it can be subsequently dressed over and inside the edge
of the external gutter. IKO Undertile Felt sheets should then be laid horizontally up the roof from that point. If used during
the winter months it should be stored between 10C and 20C for 24 hours prior to use and not applied at temperatures
below 5C. If applied at temperatures below 10C the membrane should be warmed gently with a hot air gun at details that
involve folding.
Vertical laps should be a minimum of 100mm and should be supported over a rafter. Horizontal laps will vary depending on
the pitch of the roof and should be formed in accordance with the table set out below: Roof Pitch

Reinforcing strips of 600mm minimum width should be fixed at hips, ridges and valleys.

IKO Eaves Protection Strip


IKO Undertile Felt should be used with IKO Eaves Protection Strip. This is a specially cut 330mm / 500mm width of high
performance polyester based roofing (formerly BS 747 Type 5U) designed to give long term protection where dressing an
underslating felt into an external half round gutter. It can be used with any underslating materials (including breather
membranes), any tile or slate finishes and in cold or warm roof configurations.
If used during the winter months should be stored between 10C and 20C for 24 hours prior to use and not applied at
temperatures below 5C. If applied at temperatures below 10C the membrane should be warmed gently with a hot air gun
at details that involve folding.
